I have a TiVoHD and a Humax TiVo, both wirelessly connected to a Linksys router. Both have successfully connected to the web, my laptop, and my desktop for years.

Since about a month ago, I have not been able to connect to the TiVoHD, using either computer, whether with TiVo Desktop or direct addressing through Firefox. Both TiVos show in TiVo Desktop, and the connection to the Humax works fine through Firefox and Desktop.

I can still stream content from either computer to the TiVoHD using pyTiVo; but I cannot retrieve any content from the TiVoHD. Desktop tries to connect but never even gives the "connecting" message that I get when I select the Humax.

I've tried rebooting the TiVoHD and forcing it to a new address; nothing seems to help.

Since I can still retrieve from the Humax, I don't think it's a router or firewall or TiVo Desktop issue. I think it's something in the TiVoHD, either because of new software or something else......?

The TiVoHD works fine; it has a strong 96% wireless connection and gets guide data several times daily. It has a Western Digital expansion drive attached but otherwise hasn't been "improved."

I searched through other threads but didn't find any similar descriptions.

What might I be overlooking?

Thanks for any suggestions!

What about MRV from or to the Series II? Does that work?

It does sound like a software issue on the THD. Just to be sure, what are the respective IP addresses of the two TiVos and the PC? Have you checked the TiVo website to make sure the account info hasn't gotten crunched and the Tivo has networking enabled? Have you checked the MAK address on both TiVos?

I always forget about MRV because I never do it; both TiVos are in the same room. But I looked: the HD shows the Humax and will transfer; the Humax shows the HD but says the HD "has no recordings." [of course, in reality, it has many recordings]

The HD is 192.168.1.107 and the Humax is 192.168.1.101; at your suggestion, I checked the TiVo website, and both machines are properly set up for transfers and downloads; and the MAC addresses match in the router DHCP listing and onscreen with the TiVoHD.

Good suggestions that I hadn't thought of....any others?

That sounds like the CableCARD bug: http://tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=414223

Hello orangeboy,

I did read the entire thread and never saw CableCards mentioned.....did you mean Tuning Adapter? I do have a TA.

Regardless, I read the entire post, and it describes some of my problem (S3>S2) but doesn't address the part about transfers from S3 to computer(s).

Thanks, though, for the heads-up. I will add my problem to their list.

My apologies! I missed the word "not" in this sentence: "Since about a month ago, I have not been able to connect to the TiVoHD, using either computer, whether with TiVo Desktop or direct addressing through Firefox."

The symptoms sure sounds like the TivoHD has changed IP address. When connecting to the Tivo service, since the TivoHD is initiating the connection, the return path from the Tivo servers would know how to successfully get back to the TivoHD from the IP header information, a behavior you are seeing. The same thing with pyTivo - the connection is originating from the TivoHD.

When trying to establish a connection to the TivoHD from a PC browser, Tivo Desktop, or other, if the last "known" IP address of the TivoHD is different than the current address, then a connection will not happen, also a behavior you are seeing. Have you tried pinging the last known IP address (192.168.1.107)?

Yes--once I found the Ping spot in the Linksys router settings, it works easily.
