Hi, I'm setting up my S2 with a Comcast HD box. Because I want to watch HD as well as use On Demand content, I have to plug it in separately to the TV.

Can I still use my S2 for all the usual Tivo functions if I split the cable signal from the wall to the HD box and to a Pace DTA (which will connect to the S2)?

Would using a splitter degrade the signal in any way, or interfere with each other if different channels are set, or if On Demand is used?

That setup should work fine. Adding a splitter won't cause interference, but any splitter will weaken the signal. Depending on the original signal strength and the number of other splitters in your house it could be a problem, so just try it and see how it works.

When I bought my house there was a 6-way splitter in the attic and adding a 4-way splitter in the family room was just too much (each device was getting 1/4 of 1/6 of the crappy TW signal). Since I don't watch TV in any of the other rooms, removing the attic splitter fixed the problem.

I'm doing exactly that (except splitting the incoming cable to a modem and a TivoHD as well). It works perfectly.

I record an ever-dwindling list of SD analog channels on the S2, HD on the THD, and watch On Demand on the Comcast box. Works like a charm.

In my area, though, Comcast is going all-digital in October although it's unclear whether they're keeping the local channels available as analog. At that point, I'm not sure it'll be worth the electricity to keep the S2 running.

Would I notice putting in one splitter, and would it have any effect for a digital signal?

Even though Comcast is going digital, using the Pace DTA should allow the S2 to get/record digital channels.
