Is it possible to use HDMI port on Tivo HD and also use the Digital Audio Port at the same time?
I want to use the HDMI directly into my TV and the Digital Audio Port into a separate receiver so I can connect to outdoor speakers.
Please let me know. Thanks.

Exactly our setup. All of TiVo's outputs are "live" and can be used at the same time.

I have this working with my Tivo HD. I am connected via HDMI to my Sony TV and then using the Digital Audio Optical cable to my receiver and outdoor speakers.
However, when I turn off the Sony TV, my outdoor speakers connected to through the receiver no longer get the Tivo audio running outside. Any idea on why this would happen?
If the Tivo is "always on", should'nt the audio still be going outside even if the TV is turned off?
Please let me know. Thank you.

It could be that when the HDMI connection is lost when the TV is turned off that Tivo also interrupts the audio going to the optical. You may be able to test this by removing the HDMI cable from the Tivo, and use component (if your TV supports it.) This would however seem to go against the claim that all outputs are available at the same time. I don't know - I've not tested this scenario...

Are you using the Sony TV to "pass through"?
make sure the optical cable runs directly from Tivo to your Home Theater Stereo Receiver.

Not sure that means. I have HDMI out from the Tivo directly into my Sony 52". I have not configured anything for "pass through" if that's what you are asking. Yes, the optical cable is directly from Tivo to my Onkyo SR505 receiver.
I can't try component because my TV is mounted on a wall above my fireplace.
Is there some kind of HDMI configuration I should do on the TV?

First unplug the HDMI cable from the TiVo, and see if you get the sound, if not change channels and see if you get sound. This digital copy protection can be a pain.

I unplugged the HDMI from the Tivo and I was still able to get my audio running outside.
Then I tried using white/red cables for the audio instead of the Digital Audio and the result was the same.
It must have something to do with the HDMI from the Tivo to my TV. Not sure why but it does.
Any idea on what I can try at this point?
Please let me know. Thanks.

I'm using a HD Tivo to a Samsung display via HDMI and the TOSLINK direct to a Sony receiver. The audio remains active even when the display is switched off for me... possibly in your arrangement the Tivo is being kicked into standby? (If you have another portable display, you could connect it to one of the other Tivo video outputs and monitor it's operation when you switch the TV off.)
HDMI supports a remote control ability... CEC (Consumer Electronics Control.) Perhaps your TV recognizes the Tivo and is sending the standby command when it powers off? If so, there is usually an option in the TV setup menus to disable CEC.

I disabled the CEC in the HDMI menu but I still can't get the audio outside once the TV is turned off.
The Tivo does not appear to be in any stanby mode but I did check everything in the TV menu.
Not sure what else to try at this point?

Most HD TVs, when they are turned off merely go into a standby mode which allows them to continue to communicate to the source (TiVo). Newer models have energy saving or power saving modes which turn off completely. This has been know to cause some HDCP issues such as yours.
If you have these modes, turn them off and see if that helps. Also, you can check with sony.com and see if there may be a firmware update available.

While doing this, I also noticed a delay of about 2-3 seconds on audio when fast forwarding the the Tivo. Not a big deal but a bit annoying when you can see someone talking but can't hear them? Anyone else having this problem?

Anyone else having this problem?A slight audio delay is not unusual at all, particularly w/HD (at least for us). IIRC it's usually about a second or so, but maybe more now and then. (HDMI directly to LCD TV and TOSLink/optical audio directly to Integra receiver.)

Are you using an Onkyo receiver? This is a known issue with Onkyo receivers as they are not very good at handling signal drops in the middle of a stream. I own an HT-RC160(equivalent to an SR607) and it has this issue. The issue disapeers if you switch the sound to "Dobly Digital to PCM" but I have yet to get a straight answer as to whether there is audio quality loss when you do this.
EDIT: I just noticed you mentioned about that you have an SR505. This receiver definitely has this issue. I set my Tivo to DD to PCM because that delay will eventually drive you crazy. Especially when you start to get good at hitting play at the perfect time for a show to start only to have to rewind into commercials so you dont miss any sound...

So yes, there is a definite quality loss if you have a 5.1 surround system.
I was told by a 607 owner (they pm'd me in response to the Known Issues post) that it does not exhibit this problem. They said the delay after 30sec skip and FF->Play was a fraction of a second. I was also told the same thing by a 507 owner in response to a query on AVS.

Yes, it was an Onkyo SR505. Since I wrote that message, I took the Onkyo out of my famlily room setup and had another HDMI over Cat5 run installed so I no longer needed to use the receiver. I really dislike the Onkyo and feel like it was a complete waste of money.
Now I am trying to use the Onkyo as my outdoor speaker receiver and even that's not going well. Although it does work, it's not perfect.
I am trying to use both HDMI to Tivo for indoor at the same time with Digital Audio to Onkyo to outdoor speakers. This does not work, however I have to leave indoor TV on to get the outdoor speakers playing audio through the Onkyo.
For some reason, when I turn indoor TV off it will turn off my outdoor speakers. Have no idea why?

I have exactly the same problem with Tivo HD and a Samsung HT BD1250 and Samsung B6000 LED TV. Setting TIVO Dolby Digital -> PCM fixes it but then I lose surround sound.

So do you need to disable the CEC if you are using a TiVo, or is it only for certain setups?
I'm just going to be using a TiVo HD with LCD, home theater system and blu-ray - all pretty straight forward, and not trying to get the audio out separately from the stereo.
(this should get me to the magical 10 post threshold...)
