Couldn't decide on the forum, so please let me know if I should repost.

I am a NYC TWC customer with the first release Series3 HD. I have two cable cards.

CableCard 1 can record all my shows on any channel. CableCard 2 cannot record on premium chanels (e.g. HBO, YESHD, etc.).

My Tivo doesnt seem to have the smarts to determine which tuner should record which channel. So lets say I wanted to record off of Network and HBO at same time. The Tivo could easily decide to use CableCard 1 for Network (works ok) and CableCard 2 for Premium (which results in the black screen, 0 length recording).

Is this normal? Is this a fault of the CableCard? Is this the fault of the Tivo in not differentiating channel type? Have I missed something?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like you need to call your cable company and have them correct the config on the cards. sometimes they only provision one of them fully. took a few times for them to do it right with mine. Same kind of deal- 1 tuner works fine, the other can't see the encrypted channels.

The CableCard does not tell the TiVo which channels it can receive. The CableCard merely decrypts the channels that it is authorized to decrypt.

If you have two CableCards installed, TiVo assumes that both are activated correctly. In your case, one card was not activated correctly, so it is not authorized to decrypt some channels. Cablevision needs to fix that; they need to activate the second card so it can decrypt all channels.

An unactivated card will only receive unencrypted channels, like locals.
