Currently we have the Series 3 TiVo, and have the Tivo brand wireless adapters, that I believe transmit in 802.11b only.

Is it possible to purchase just a simple USB 802.11G network adapter, and plug it into the Tivo, and have it work at higher speeds???

If so, are there any recommendations on which USB wireless adapter to get??

Thanks!

Do you know that for sure? The fact that it's called "TiVo Wireless G USB Network Adapter" would make me think otherwise.

The excellent MRV/TTG FAQ (click on "FAQ" on the upper menu bar of the forums) has a full discussion of the networking options available to you.

I didn't say the wireless adapter said it was labeled as a Wireless G USB

I just mentioned we had the older USB adapters that support 802.11b ......

It is 802.11G. The list of supported adapters can be found at www.tivo.com/adapters The Tivo brand adapter is the only wireless one supported on the HD model, and is the only wireless adapter that supports WPA network security. Tivos tend to be CPU bound, so you will not be able to approach a G network's bandwidth maximum.

No, but I did.
The branded Tivo adapter is called "The TiVo Wireless G USB Network Adapter (https://www3.tivo.com/store/accessories.do#USB200M)"

The older adapters were recommended by TiVo but were not TiVo branded.

Are you sure? I could be wrong but I thought that real early on tivo branded an 802.11B adapter. At that point in time I was hacking my DTivo and we had our own set of issues with network adapters so I wasn't paying a lot of attention to stand alones, but I seem to remember a wireless B adapter from tivo.

I'm not sure if tivo.com sold a third party wireless B adapter but the first (and only) adapter to be branded tivo is the current wireless G adapter.

That could be what I am thinking about.
