Hey guys,

Just restored an HR10-250 due to a failed harddrive. My instantcake was an older version (3.15).

Will it still update on its own after all this time. I have forced numerous calls over the last few days.

Any insight will be helpful.

Thanks

Jim

It should update to 6.4a either via stream or phone line. Expect to take a couple weeks for it to happen.

I would say it could takes MONTHS to happen. I had a hard drive fail in one of my Hr10-250s and had to restore an older image. I had it phone home tons of time and finally just gave up and several months later I finally got the update (during the normal phone home schedule).

On my HD Tivo (hooked up to cable) it took make two calls (Internet, actually) to go from old restored image to 11.0d. Shows you what happens when Tivo still supports the hardware.

I would strongly advise anyone with an HD Tivo - for sure with an upgraded drive - to pop the drive out and back it up. With WinMFS you can do a truncated backup in a very short time without knowing LINUX commands. I always use the LINUX MFS stools, but have to admit the WinMFS program does a nice job and is really easy to use for anyone. With a USB->IDE (or USB-SATA) dongle you should be able to back up the drive without having to remove it from the Tivo - just pop the case and hook it up. Use a USB extension cable to reach your laptop or desktop.
