After replacing the hard drive on an already activated TIVO. Will I be required to run TIVO account activation again?
Is the activation files written to the TIVO main board or to the hard drive?

Thanks

Depending on the method used you may have to run a Clear & Delete Everything on the TiVo, but you shouldn't have to do anything at all to your account online.

If you just backed up the old drive and restored it to the new drive you don't have to do anything. If the image came from another TiVo or InstantCake you need to do the C&DE to "marry" the new drive to your motherboard.

WintonNO, you do not need to re-do the TiVo account activation. The TiVo subscription is tied to a key on the mother board of the TiVo.

As ggieseke points out, "Clear and Delete Everything" would be required to match the drive with your TiVo's key if the drive is a new drive and not a copy or expanded copy of your TiVo's drive.

Account activation is kept on TiVo's servers. Your box will get that status when it connects.

I replaced my hard drive with a 1tb drive in May. I did not have to reactivate it. I just had redo the seasons passes. and channel guild.
