Remote problem I haven't seen before

I searched through all the remote problems threads I could find, and googled, and haven't seen my particular problem.

I have 2 tivos in the room - S3 and HD - and suddenly switch 1 (white tivo remote) which controls the S3 stopped working, switch 2 controlling the HD works fine. Neither tivo shows a signal received for switch 1.

Pulled out 2 other remotes - the original grey one and glo black one - same problem with those. Took all other remotes from the room.

I have no idea what sort of interference it could be, or why only switch 1 would be affected.

Frustrating!

Weak suggestion: Try doing a remote programming deal on the remote while the switch is in position 1.

Hold-TiVo-Stop - look for the LED - release, press 1.

Called Tivo in desperation and he was as puzzled as I was. The fact there were several remotes, 2 tivos - all exhibiting the same.

Hard reset, nothing. He had me take remotes to default: Tivo-Pause-0 and that worked. Reprogrammed all the remotes to operate 2 tivos and it's fine.

Why did this happen? Customer Service doesn't know, agrees it's weird.

Side note on CS: got right through when I called, grateful we needn't navigate all those horrid menus or battle with the computer by voice for problem recognition first - much less frustrating than before. And the fact we can continue to call Tivo and get support for as long as we want is heads above most other electronics companies.

Occasionally support isn't helpful or knowledgeable but that happens everywhere -and in the main I can say only good things about them.

This just happenned to me with a 5 Harmony 890 Pros.

NONe of them would work correctly. The orig remote wouldn't either.

Reprogrammed the orig remote to unit 0, then set each of my two tivos back to code 2 and 3 respectively, and it works fine.

Don't know WHAT caused it.

Maybe 11.0d last night on both Tivos????

You could well be right that it's from 11.0d -

I'm not getting the 'more about' on pause, but also haven't been able to get rid of the progress bar with S-Play-S-Pause-S or via down arrow.

Is your 'more about' gone?

UPDATE: after some fiddling back and forth between tivos, the 'more about' came back - and then the down arrow worked to get rid of the progress bar, and I was able to program the S-P-S-P-S - weird goings on!

Strange things are known to happen if you are on the System Information screen on one TiVo, and use a remote or remote setting meant for the other TiVo. When you're on that screen, the TiVo attempts to reset its idea of what remote is controlling it. Perhaps you were checking on whether the software version number had changed on one TiVo and then did something on the other TiVo?

Or perhaps as you said, 11.0d might have reset something (but I would think both TiVos would be affected, and other folks would be complaining.)
