Can anyone summarize the difference(s) between these two apps? From what I can tell, one streams from the PC to the TiVo while the other copies from the PC to TiVo (can watch during transfer). Is that the only difference or are there other functionalities that differ?
I've also noticed that when streaming/transferring an MPG file (an episode of Rescue Me recorded on a ReplayTV unit) that the timeline does not work with either app and with pyTivo FF/RW is not functional. Is this expected behavior?
Thanks...Scott

You did a pretty good job summarizing. PyTivo also does music & photos.
For me, it's not either PyTivo or Streambaby, it's PyTivo + Streambaby. I run them both on the same PC and use each equally.

Normally MPG or any other kind of file will properly show timeline and all trick functions will work. The RTV mpegs (at least high & medium quality) have never worked properly for playback on Tivos from my experience but pretty much any other mpeg is fine.
As an added bonus Streambaby (for normal MPG files) has the ability to jump anywhere into a stream similar to how RTV can do by using number pad & skip forward/back etc, something you can't do with normal Tivo playback.

I'd say they have no functionality in common, technically, except for Push.
No, the no-timeline thing is not expected behavior, although it's not unprecedented. Try adding a metadata file with a line like "Override_container: asf" to make pyTivo remux these files. (And if that doesn't work, you can proceed to "Override_aCodec: wma" and finally "Override_vCodec: wmv".) BTW, if someone would like to share one of these ReplayTV files with me for test purposes, I'll see if there's any way for pyTivo to recognize it and do the necessary.

I believe another difference is that pyTivo is compatible with the older Series 2 Tivos, while streambaby only works with Series 3.
