View Full Version : Galleon on AMD64 Jaunty
Galleon runs fairly good but after playing music a while it disappears from the Tivo, even though it is still running on the pc. If I restart it everything seems OK for a while but then it happens again.
I saw the wrapper.log shows I should be using a 64 bit version of libwrapper.so, but the only version of Galleon I found was
galleon-2.5.5-linux.zip i386 34.4 MiB Tue Mar 24 2009

INFO | jvm 1 | 2009/07/14 18:03:13 | One common cause of this problem is running a 32-bit version
INFO | jvm 1 | 2009/07/14 18:03:13 | of the Wrapper with a 64-bit version of Java, or vica versa.
INFO | jvm 1 | 2009/07/14 18:03:13 | This is a 64-bit JVM.
It's being run as root, so I don't think it is a permissions problem.
Do you think this 64 vs 32 mismatch is the problem and is there a simple fix? I do have an old box with 32 bit hardy that I could load it on, but it would be nicer having it on this system- the 32 bit system is much slower and the java may bog it down.
thanks in advance

I'm not positive it will work, but you could try and download the 64-bit version of the wrapper from here:
http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/download.jsp
Thanks, that file produces a warning about being the wrong version, but seems to work better. I ended up putting galleon on the 32 bit box and had the same problem until I chose not to use internet images. Now it's just a tivo icon and the name of the song moving around for a screen saver, but it played for about 10 hours today - and that is the important part.

Weird. I'm pretty sure I use the internet images option, but then again most of my music is already tagged with album art and I usually have the TV off when music is playing anyway.
Glad you got something working though.

I just switched to the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) and so experienced this Galleon issue first hand. Here's how I got it to work (for anyone who might stumble across this thread in a search).
- installed Galleon normally *
- downloaded the 64-bit wrapper from here (http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/download/3.4.0/wrapper-linux-x86-64-3.4.0.tar.gz)
- copied the lib/wrapper.jar and lib/libwrapper.so files from the 64-bit wrapper archive into Galleon's lib directory
- removed the existing wrapper-3.2.3.jar file from Galleon's lib directory
- copied the bin/wrapper file from the 64-bit wrapper archive into Galleon's bin directory
- removed the existing wrapper-linux-x86-32 binary and renamed the new 64-bit wrapper to that name
- started up Galleon and it worked!
* actually, I downloaded the source from Sourceforce and compiled/built it myself. not sure if that will make a difference but it might since I compiled it directly on the x64 architecture and am using a 64-bit JRE as well.

How do I delete the existing wrapper-3.2.3.jar? When I try to, it tells me that it's in use by java.exe.

java.exe? Are you trying this on Windows?
At any rate, make sure all java processes are stopped before you try removing the jar files.

I followed these instructions for ubuntu 11.10 on amd64. Everything is working. Thanks for the information.
One minor correction is to rename the file wrapper-linux-x86-64 instead of wrapper-linux-x86-32. The galleon script will look for the 64 bit filename if the 32 bit file isn't present. This has no impact on how it works, but is less confusing.
These changes should probably be made to the project. I didn't see it in the bug list or feature requests on sourceforge. Are there others that would benefit?
I also launch streambaby from galleon. ffmpeg refused to work. I recompiled streambaby and now it is working too. I haven't figured out why yet. Not sure if this is common knowledge, but I didn't find it in my searches.

I haven't looked at this in a while, but here (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=7010009#post7010009) were my original instructions for running streambaby under Galleon.
