View Full Version : Message About NY Network Feeds Shut-Off

I recently received a message from DirecTV stating that my NY networks will be shut off on 8/14 because I receive my locals in HD. Currently, I only receive CBS and NBC out of New York. I do get all the South Florida Miami stations in HD via my dish. I also get the locals in HD via an OTA antenna.
Is there any way to avoid this or should I just consider myself lucky to have enjoyed the 2 network feeds for this long.
One last point: I am contemplating a move to the Denver area in the next year or two and would love to receive their feeds in order to get a "Feel" for the Metro-Denver area. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure the latter is the case. Once I got HD locals (Burlington, VT) they shut off HD feeds from both coasts (they left SD feeds, however, so I still have my 3-hour delay backup if something happens, albeit only in SD)

Don't think this is feasible, due to spot beams.

If you are using an HR10, you'd lose the NY feeds no matter what as they are being switched to MPEG4 only.
As kaszeta suggests, the Denver locals are not available to you if you are outside their spot beam. Have you considered looking to see if any Denver stations offer web feeds? If you're serious about "getting a feel", then the news programs would be of most interest.

Pretty much this. They have been auditing accounts for a couple years now and shutting off people that don't qualify anymore. They have to do this or they can be sued by the government (like Dish has) for breaking the law. It is against the law to allow you to have HD distant network feeds if HD locals are available to you.
So yes, consider yourself lucky that you've kept them so far.

I received the same message exactly one year ago ... I waited with great anticipation for my lone HD DNS channel to be shut off ... but nothing ever happened. Still have it to this day.
That said, I just got this latest message too. Once again, I'll be waiting to see what happens ...

Well it wasn't 8/14. It was 8/29.
No more New York network feeds. :(
Dang! Once 8/14 passed, I thought that somehow I fell thru the cracks.

Same here, though I was cut off a little sooner, on 8/18.
