I am still confused on TiVo Service Pricing; As of 7/11/09.

I have an old TiVo Series 2 DT under a 3 year ($299) Plan that expires tomorrow 7/12/09. I ordered a new HD TiVo from Amazon, that records 20 Hrs HD, but there was a problem at UPS and I will not get it until Monday, 7/14/09.

My way of thinking was: Get the new TiVo a Lifetime Service ($299) as a Multi-Service pricing on that unit, and then, cancel the service on the old TiVo.

Now; I understand the old TiVo will renew automatically on 7/12/09 (About 12.95 a month). I am not sure if I can register the new TiVo without a Serial # so I will try to get one from Amazon tomorrow by phone.

If unable to get a serial #, will the new agreement on the new one be month by month, or is it for one year. If month by month, I could just pay one month, register the new one Lifetime, then cancel the old TiVo service.

Would the Multi-Service Discount Policy allow me to do that, or what is the best way, if any to pay only $299 Lifetime for the new unit?

I have no use for the old unit. No matter what tips I followed, I could not get it to work with the all digital Verizon FIOS Lineup. So am resigned to let it go.

Am I thinking the right way about the new service, or could I be stuck to pay $399 for a Lifetime Service?

I think it should be better for me to do all the changes by phone, instead of online, one wrong click and I may be in trouble...

Thanks again for your time, S O-t

After your old TiVo subscription expires, you'll be on month-to-month. As soon as you activate lifetime on the new TivoHD, you can cancel the Series2 on month-to-month.

Thanks bkdt:

I had a hard time to even find the button that allows me to post a new thread. I guess old age must have crept on me faster than usual...

Am I posting on the correct forum? or is there another forum where I could have posted my question?

This is the correct forum. Welcome. Feel free to talk/ask about anything TiVo here. :)

According to #8 in the link below - you will be on an annual plan ($129) with the option to cancel within the first 30 days if your old sub was a 3yr prepay.

As JB said, I'm not sure this is true anymore. They changed things last fall. I would certainly recommend calling up TiVo on whether you commit to a full year.

Subscriptions started after 5/15/08 fall under the rules that jjberger2134 linked to.
A 3 year subscription that ends today would have been started before that date so it will fall under the old policies and automatically revert to a monthly subscription with no commitment.

The pre 5/15/08 service plan info can be found here

Good point. In addition, the OP should call or go online after the initial 3 yr. sub expires to make sure that TiVo is charging monthly.

Thank you all for the feedback. I just called the 24/7 [877.367-8486] line since the "Buy-TiVo" line was off hours. A guy called "Mike" was very helpful and since my new TiVo has not arrived (Thanks UPS), he extended my service for one free month, so I could have time to buy a Lifetime ($299) Service for the new one, and later cancel the old one.

He gave me a Case Number for my records.

That was mighty nice of TiVo...

Thanks again, Senior Old-timer

That was generous of TiVo. Let us know how it works out in the end.
