Right now we pay $106.00 a month for DirecTV and another $106.00 for At&T phone/internet...SUX...I was thinking about switching back to Comcast and only doing cable/internet and then buying TIVO. My ???? is we have 5 TV's and 2 of them have HD/DVR how many TIVOs should I buy and how many cable boxes do I need from Comcast. I have a 4 yr old that really loves On Demand so we definitely need that. I've just stared doing research so any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you,

Kerri

do you want a DVR on each TV? Otherwise there are 2 tuners in each TiVo so you figure out the number of shows you want to record at once. Nicely, the TiVo DVR can be upgraded hard drive wise so each TiVo could easily have 1 TB of space for just the 100$ more for the hard drive.

If you get TiVo HD then cable cards in each will mean no need for a cable box - the cards decrypt the digital channels as needed, The bad news though is not on demand that way. Easily fixed by having a cable box directly hooked to the TV she will watch at. Since it is mainly for on demand - no need to record that. Note that a TiVo HD can not hook up with a cable box and change its channels - for that you would need a Series 2 model which is SD only.

So look through the info above and fill us in a little more on what you want to do for each TV.

I want a DVR on 2 TV's and just have regular cable on the other 3. I'm looking into doing the cable/internet package for $70 a month. If I get the cable cards from Comcast then I can watch cable through my Tivo's, correct?

correct - get 2 TiVo HDs and then cable card in each - you will be able to watch/record your digital tier. You may also need an SDV dongle if they have any Switched Digital Video channels.

Hook the TiVo DVRs up to your home network and then you can access some broadband features of TiVo as well like streaming Netflix(with Netflix sub) or renting and downloading Movies from Amazon. That is why I do not miss on demand stuff.

You have your own reasons for sticking w/ AT&T for phone, but I've been pleased w/ Comcast and it's a lot cheaper than AT&T once bundled.

I have one AT&T line and 1 Comcast, and ironically in the last few years w/ Comcast, only the AT&T line has gone out - once when we had a major regional outage in the SF Bay Area - and at least I had my Comcast business line!

I'd seriously consider Comcast's Triple Play.

I actually thought about doing the triple play since they're offering $200 cash back, and we're going to have to pay $300.00 to cancel our DirecTV, but we also have the Magic Jack and were not sure we wanted a phone line anymore. We really only need a landline to check our son's pacemaker, and we can do that at my parent's house, if we do keep our landline we at least get to write our phone bill off on our taxes. I know Comcast charges for each cable box just like DirecTV. Before I switch I don't want my bill to add up to be just as much as what I'm already paying with Directv/At&t.... Soooooo many decisions it's making my head spin.....lol
