Has anyone here who has FiOS or RCN tried using a QAM tuner without cable cards on those services? If so, is there anything at all? Or, anything beyond OTAs?

You won't get anything at all on FiOS unless TV service is active. Assuming TV service is active, the most you'll get is locals and music channels without a CableCard.

I didn't have in mind stealing service, if that's what you're talking about.

I meant what I said, connecting a device to a TV dedicated line, but without a FiOS box being there. You know, like people with FiOS used to be able to do before it went all digital. I was wondering if they have unscrambled digital channels a QAM tuner can get.

Same question with regards to RCN.

As far as I know, RCN encrypts everything but the locals...but they do have analog channels.

I didn't mean to suggest that you were trying to steal service. The price of cable Internet without TV is often higher to reflect the inclusion of limited basic (local TV). Customers with cable Internet often find that they can connect a QAM tuner to their coax to receive local channels in HD. That won't work on FiOS -- you won't get any channels via QAM unless TV service is enabled on your account.

The last time I scanned with RCN I got the locals and the music channels. I didn't do it on the TiVo. I did it on the TV's QAM tuner. Not that it should make a difference.
