Can the remote that came with my Tivo Series3HD be converted into an RF remote? I've heard this can be done but wanted to find out what I would purchase. Can this be purchased at a local store or only online?

My understanding is that an RF remote can be used anywhere in the house without having to be pointed directly at the Tivo. How far is the reach?

Please let me know. Thanks.

As long as the Series3 remote takes AA or AAA batteries the Next Gerneration Remote Control Extender is a great low cost RF solution.

I use it with my TivoHD remote. It allows me to control my Tivo and Stereo Receiver from the yard (and hot tub) with no "line of sight" LOL.

It is sold at various online stores including Amazon (~$30).

That is exactly what I want to do also. Can I keep my IR extenders in place and use this RF product also? What is the installation process for this product?

Please let me know. Thanks.

Check it out on Amazon.com.

Basically it uses a battery compartment in the remote. You put the rechargeable battery and a transmitter in that battery slot.

The receiver (looks like a small martian spaceship) then connects to your equipment via IR blasters or it sends an IR signal out itself if you are able to have it have line of site to your equipment. The receiver also recharges a 2nd battery.

The range is about 100ft.

You could also just get PowerMID or similar systems.. I used them from different rooms before.

These are considered remote extenders and can only be used in rooms with transmitters.
Is there something similar to dish DVR remote where it can be used in any room without a transmitter?
I like to listen to music channels and streams from my PC on my tivo and would like to control the volume, pause, skip music etc. from any rooms in the house or outside

The next generation remote extender puts the transmitter inside your remote so it will work anywhere. The base is the receiver that is put by your component/tivo. I have it and it works great...you can even buy additional transmitters in case you have multiple remotes as I do.

Is it possible to use both the Eye emitter from the Next Generation Remote extender and my existing the Xantech IR Eye emitter at the same time?

Please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification. I've been looking for something like this for a while. Will try it out

If you have an iPhone or IPOD Touch, you can get the equivalent function over WiFi with the MyDVR application.

+1 ... I've used this for the past year and am pretty happy with it.

Hi all, I have an old HTM MX-500 remote and was gonna blow the dust off of it to use as an "outside" remote for my Zone 2.
Some people are saying that the Next Generation RF Converter doesn't work with the MX-500...Not sure if that information is old or correct.
Anyone here know the answer?
Thanks!

It seems that it will not work in MX type remotes. Look to the right under "Cons":

Hi A J, I did notice that but the review date was from 2005 so was hoping that "Next Generation" might have updated the product to work with an MX remote.
