A dead processor or ???

Looking to add more space to my stock 40Gb S2.
I tried 2 different hard drives that both instacaked successfully.
Tivo is still stuck at Welcome

I even tried hooking up a computer power supply to power the hard drive,
all spins up; but still stuck at "Welcome. Powering up ..."

THe box was working fine before taking apart, and I was careful with static.

Any ideas ?

Have you checked the drive jumper settings? Most drives these days are set to "cable select" but it should be set to "master" for your S2.

That was the trick, thanks much ggieseke (&bc who mailed me also)!
Left the jumper on master - swapped back to CS, and booted up.

Now just have to find a friend with a POTS line, tivo doesn't like
vonage, and it won't pick up my USB network adapter until an update.

Thanks for the fix. My bro had the same problem. We tried many things and even called relatives who have TiVo. No avail.
