I did a search and most posts were over a year old. I am interested if any of you have had any luck with wireless IR extenders. I need to control a comcast box in another room. The signal has to pass thru two walls and travel about 60 feet. I can run a wired system but wanted to see if the wireless units do work.

Basic wireless coul;d be an issue depending on how thick the walls are and all. You could look into getting a universal RF remote which converts the IR to a radio frequency which will travel much further and with greater accuracy.

I use a wired system for a short run in my family room. It's only about 20-25 feet, but I need it since all the equipment is in a rack that is behind the couch.

I have rather good luck for a system I made myself.

I've been using this (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=398735) for the past year and am pretty happy with it. I see today that Amazon is selling refurbished Harmony 890 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001L1RSO8/ref=s9_simz_gw_s0_p23_t1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=0JPQ4572NPTGCPA25FFN&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938811&pf_rd_i=507846) remotes, which have RF built-in.

I bought the Next generation remote extender from buy.com. It works great ...goes through 2 floors in my house to control my tivo...you will have to re-charge the battery every month or two if you use the tivo a lot.

Which is why it's great that it has that spare battery in the base charged and ready to go!

I ordered a second transmitter from Amazon the other week so I wouldn't have to switch batteries when I move between my Glo remote and the Harmony. I accidentally ordered the 433MHz version instead of the 418MHz version since the documentation on my base station was incorrect. So to anyone who might be doing the same, be wary of the difference. The 418MHz transmitters have red writing on the battery casing and the 433MHz ones have blue writing. Everything else is the same.
