View Full Version : Does playing music on computer interfere with transfer?

I tried searching for this, but I couldn't find anything. If there is another thread that discusses this, I would appreciate being referred to it.

I am attempting to transfer a program from my computer to my DVR. If I also try to play music from the computer on the DVR at the same time, will these two processes interfere with each other significantly? I don't care if the program transfer is slowed down - I just don't want it to be cut off completely, and I would rather not test it by trying it if there is somebody out there who knows that it would indeed cut off the transfer, or conversely, if the program transfer would cause the music to break up or not play properly. Does anybody have any experience trying this?

Interesting question. I don't think I've ever done those two tasks at the same time, but I'd like to think it would work.

What's the harm in going ahead and trying for yourself? *
If things don't work right just cancel one of the processes.
Worst case, I would think, you just reboot the Tivo.

* I'm going to try it myself.

ETA: Am doing it now...music is playing fine and blue transfer light is lit, so so far so good.

It wasn't that important. I waited until the program finished transferring and then started listening to the music. It'll come up again, but I was just checking to see if someone had already tried it. Now that my program has finished transferring, I might try a little test sometime and report back, if you don't get to it first.

Yeah, it seems to be working...I even started a transfer from Tivo to PC, three tasks at once, and music still plays OK.

Probably depends on how powerful is your computer. I've found that TivoDesktop transfers are very unreliable when my computer is moderately loaded. I have not tried playing with the performance settings preferences, though.
