I've been trying to mux in subtitles into XviDs & other releases before I have TiVo Desktop transfer them over to the TiVo Box...

I've tried VirtualDubMod which worked great before but for some reason it doesn't work anymore w/ the subtitler plugin :(

So Now I've been trying other applications like MeGUI or StaxRip which I have found both to be too ridulously massive w/ too many bells & whistles and non-functional as soon as your done installing??

Best thing I've had luck with would be the River Past Video Cleaner Pro app which I find to be alright but the encoding it does is just subpar and no excuse especially when they're marketin' it and it doesn't get close to as good quality as VirtualDubMod & XviD codec does which are both free by the way.

I deal with a lot of diffrent formats & my being hearing impaired I'd like to just be able to mux in subtitles and go! Which used to be the case when VirtualDubMod was working great

If anyone has a better experince with another application or method please let me know! Thank you!!

A lot depends on what format you have used to store the captions.

If you have text captions such as .srt, and want to send them to your TCD24004A (Series 2), then the simplest mechanism is to use the T2Sami GUI version and the Tivo SD template to convert the xvid to Tivo a compatible mpeg and mux the captions in as standard closed captions. T2Sami uses ffmpeg to do the A/V conversion and its own logic to do the rest.

If you have .srt and want hard captioning, you can still use T2Sami with mencoder. It is a little more work to set up because you need to set up Mencoder on your own before T2Sami can use it.

If you are storing the captions as subtitle streams : (VobSub), then T2Sami can't help you. If I needed to do it, I would use mencoder directly. T2Sami creates .srt files from Vob subtitle streams when it processes a DVD because these are more versatile when the output is used with pyTivo, Streambaby or the Tivo Desktop.

Other people that are going to a Series 3 rather than a Series 2, do not need to do this preprocessing at all if they use Streambaby. Streambaby will process the xvid and .srt files simultaneously to stream captioned video directly.
