So i've just moved to Miami Beach from Manhattan where I was using TWC 8300Hd. The interface was fine on that and I was ok with it.

Here on Miami Beach, the only provider I can get is Atlantic Broadband. While they use the same box..their interface/firmware is absolutely HORRIBLE.

I am planning on getting a tivo now and using their cable card.

What I am looking for is advice on which tivo model to get.

I def need the following features

1. HD recording (hd-dvr)
2. Being able to record 2 shows at once while watching a third (via Mcard cable card?)
3. Great user interface that I keep hearing about with Tivo.
4. HDMI connection
5. The lowest priced option with these features as I just started my first year of residency and let's just say i'm not getting paid like a doctor yet!

Thanks in advance for any input/advice!

sounds like you need vanilla Tivo HD (not the XL). It should give you everthing you are looking for.

Incidentally you will only be able to record two things at once and watch a third PREVIOUSLY RECORDED PROGRAM. You will not be able to reord two shows and watch a third live program - there are only two tuners.

if money is tight check aorund any Sears in the area - they have specials on TiVo HD - if any are left in stock.

then you might consider paying yearly upfront (I think that is 129$) to save a few bucks off the 12.95 per month it would be if you pay by month instead for the subscription. A lifetime sub is even better but the 399$ for that all at once may be more than you want right now.

Thanks for the advice guys.
So do all the Tivo Hd's use the same interface? I'm assuming all the interfaces can be upgraded via a firmware update?

The TivoHd will automatically upgrade to the latest software after 2-4 days.

If you have not already, be sure to see the TivoHD FAQ (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=419994). You may want to bookmark that link.

Technically, you may be able to watch a third program live depending on what type of TV you have. Assuming an HD TV with a QAM tuner, if you were to split your cable before the TiVo and send one line direct to the TV, you would be able to watch live that way while your TiVo records two programs. Note that the channel numbers may be different that way. You will also need to periodically do a channel scan on your TV in case the cable provider is moving channels/sub-channels around (your CC handles that with respect to the TiVo).

Yes, they all use the same, so you needn't worry about that!
