DVD recorder with out TIVO service

I have a question if any one could help. Can we use the DVD recorder without the TIVO service...? If I cancel tivo service could I still be able to use the DVD recorder to pass home movies to the recorder.....:confused:

I have a Humax DVD Tivo unit, too, but never even thought of using it manually to record. I'm not sure that will work, but in any event, I'd keep the Tivo service!

Or sell your Tivo and get a DVD player that can handle your movies-- in fact, aren't there easy ways of transfefring home movies to the PC and from there burning DVDs to one's heart's content?
