Want to hack hr 10-250 few qucik backup questions

Hey all I want to hack a hr 10-250 it has a 250gig drive in it. I would like to copy the software over to a different drive so I can mod and still have a backup. But I don't have a bigger drive so is it possible to copy the drive to a smaller one then the original I have read that it is not but want to ask any way if not what can I do I don't want to buy a new hdd just to mess around with.

It isn't much different from your older SD TiVo (Samsung 4040r).

BTW, 300-320GB drives aren't that expensive.

No, there is no way to copy to a smaller drive. Even if the drive is off by a few kb it won't work - I know i tried to copy to what was supposedly the same size drive but it was no go.
