I have found most of the videos I have transferred from my tivo to computer won't transfer to my new apple tv. I have since changed my itivo preferences to the appletv setting, however now they won't sync to my iphone.

Is there an apple universal setting or something. I tried the hi rez iphone/ipod setting but they still won't be transfer to apple tv.

Thanks in advance!

I believe the ipphone super-res setting should work for both iphone and appleTV, though can't try it out... so tell me how that works for you

If not, it's pretty easy to create a format called "Handbrake Universal" to use handbrake in the apple universal preset (try the super-res first though, since thing will work better if it does).

No the hi-rez ipod/iphone setting doesn't work. I don't understand using handbrake to make it work. More details?

Thanks!

Bring up iTiVo. Select the prefs. Under format select "Handbrake AppleTV", click on the 'advanced' tab. where it says "encoder video options, in quotes is the word AppleTV. Replace that word with Universal (leave the quotes in).

Click "Save Custom Format" and call it something like "Handbrake Universal".

Use that. That uses the handbrake encoder in universal mode. If that also doesn't work then you're doing something else wrong (the universal format is definitely supposed to work on appletv, iphone, and ipod).

Hey thanks for trying to help! It didn't work though. Still won't transfer to apple tv.
Any other thoughts?

Handbrake universal is supposed to be AppleTV compatible. Since thousands of people are using it with minor complaints, I think it's more likely the way you are trying to get it on the appleTV is broken...

How are you getting the encoded movie to the appleTV?

Keep in mind I don't have or use an appletv, so I may not be able to help you much...

The way I'm getting it to my apple tv is by streaming. Everything in itunes that is format compatible is automatically on my apple tv. All movies in itunes that were ripped with handbrake with the apple universal setting are there. All tv shows transferred via itivo using the apple tv setting are there.

My problem is the appletv setting won't let me put those shows on my iphone. I just don't want to rip things twice with different settings. I really don't think I am doing anything wrong... ?

Is the universal setting (or the iphone super-res) not loadable to the iphone or not streamed to the appleTV? When you add the movie to itunes, is there a menu option to convert the file to appleTV compatible maybe? I'm hoping someone who has an appleTV can step in and suggest something since I'm not actually familiar with it.
