Hi all,
Is there a way to disable the TiVo startup Movie on a UK TiVo. I think I've seen it enough times now....

http://tivoza.nanfo.com/wiki/index.php/TiVo_boot_parameters suggests that it can be done by telneting, and using bootpage -p /dev/hda command
but I don't know if this will work here...

Has any one tried this or another way?

Many thanks.

ShaunH

Erm... how many times have you seen it? Unless you're rebooting regularly for some reason, TiVo should run for months without needing to be restarted...

I'd agree with nickf, unless you repair Tivos for a living you should rarely see the movie at all.

I've had my Tivo for over 8 years and have seen it less than a dozen times. Still find it quite amusing, particularly the bit about Sky Digital.

I know there's a way to get it into your "Now Playing" list, but not a way to stop it appearing. I agree with the above posts. If you're seeing it too often, your Tivo's re-booting too much. Maybe it's faulty?

I see the Startup movie frequently now as I'm using a time switch to turn my TiVo and Cable Box on and off.
I watch little TV so am doing this to save electricity (see my earlier discussion thread abou using TiVo as NAS).

You can't turn it off, but you can press the TiVo button when it starts playing and it will stop and go to the main menu

Thanks - did know about this, but it would be nice to get rid of it completely!

Well as I mentioned, the web page I referred to suggests I would need to telnet to the tivo
and toggle the following:

TIVO_DISABLE_INTERSTITIALS: whether or not to display the startup animation: 0=enabled, 1=disabled

when I telnet to my tivo and enter
bootpage -p /dev/hda
in the terminal it returns the following:
root=/dev/hda4

The webpage suggests that I would need to enter the following:
bootpage -P 'root=/dev/hda4 TIVO_DISABLE_INTERSTITIALS=1' /dev/hda

I wanted to feel confident that my TiVo is still going to boot after doing the above :-)

Just in case any one else needs to do this, I tried it yesterday & it works perfectly - No more Startup Movie!

Cheers.

Congratulations on finding out another little titbit. Personally, I like seeing the welcome movie.
One thing that's always bothered me is the length of time the CacheCard memory tests take on startup. I don't restart TiVo unless necessary, but when trying new stuff requiring a restart (or occasionally when I've messed up and TiVo goes into a continual reboot cycle) I'd much prefer the memory tests bypassed. Is there a way to do this? (Without removing the SDRAM)

Cheers,
Phil

You might not say that if you have to watch it every day :-) It's actually the tune that I find annoying as it seems to be much too loud.

That I can't help you with...I wish I could get a (cheap) cachecard though...
Cheers,
