If I let my TiVo service lapse, will I still be able to pull or stream movies from my server? How about listen to MP3s? I know the terms and conditions state nothing will work properly, but I didn't know if anyone had practical experience.

I prepaid an annual and it's coming due and am contemplating dropping it mostly due to the $13 /mo. Any tips on how to get this down? the CSR I just talked to wasn't very helpful in that regard.

Thanks,
Mark

No, you cannot. You can watch (and pause/rewind) liveTV and view existing recordings, but that's about it. TiVo sells their hardware below cost so they don't want people using it without a subscription.

The annual pre-paid rate is $129 which comes to 10.75/month. So that can be some savings for you.

If you choose to cancel your subscription, make sure you cancel with several days left on your annual contract. Once they charge the monthly rate after the annual contract expires, it can be difficult to cancel that month and get your money back. Just be sure to cancel before your billing date.

edit - I was just looking at the Service Payment Plan T&C and I noticed that they may charge you for a full year (another annual contract), but you have 30 days to cancel - Item #8 in the link below.
