View Full Version : Transfer Troubles
Hi, I am having trouble with the Tivo Desktop program (2.7). My PC finds both my Tivo's fine, and lists all the shows. But when I start a transfer, after a few seconds I get a message that says "Some transfers have been interrupted". In the transfer status dialog box, there is a small red X, and it says "The system cannot find the file specified". I have had these Tivo's (Series 2) for a few years now, and have never had a problem. A few weeks ago, I noticed that my tivo's could no longer see my PC, something about my media license being expired I think. So I upgraded from version 2.3 to 2.7. Everything worked great that day, but ever since I turned my PC off that day, it stopped working. Now it will not work on any PC on my home network (same problem). I have removed my firewall software and anti-virus in case they might be the culprit, but no luck. Has this happened to anyone out there ? Any idea how I might be able to fix this ?
I want my Tivo Desktop back! :(

Do you have the same problem when using kmttg?
Kmttg (http://code.google.com/p/kmttg/) is a replacement for TiVo Desktop. It is a free TiVo download application that will download, decrypt to MPG, detect and remove commercials, and save captions to a subtitle file (.srt). If you want, it will also re-encode into various formats, such as MPEG-4 (H.264) to reduce file size for archival or portable video players.
All this is automated into a single step.

Kmttg
Setup instructions for Kmttg:
Kmttg requires Java. If you don't have Java installed, or don't know if you have Java installed, you can grab it at Sun's Java.com (http://www.java.com).
Download and unzip the latest version of kmttg (kmttg_v0*.zip) from this site (http://code.google.com/p/kmttg/downloads/list).
Run kmttg.jar.
Kmttg should detect your TiVo, but if it does not, you can add it manually under File -> Configure. Type in your TiVo's name and IP address, and then click Add. Click OK to save the changes.
Description of kmttg options
metadata - writes the program information to a text file.
decrypt - removes the .TiVo wrapper and leaves you with a MPG.
VRD QS fix - uses VideoRedo (if installed) to detect and remove any audio or video errors in the file;
ad detect - detects the commercials and flags them in a text file.
ad cut - removes the commercials detected by ad detect
captions - writes the closed captions to a subtitle file (.srt).
encode -- re-encodes the video into the format of your choice, such as MP4
To display the recordings for download, select the desired DVR from the TiVo dropdown list.
Select the recording you want to download, and then check the box for decrypt. If you want to remove commercials (this is not 100% reliable), also check the boxes for comskip and comcut. If you want to create a smaller version of the video for archival or a portable device, check the box for encode and choose the appropriate profile (ex: hb_iphone). Once you've selected the program you want to download with the appropriate options, click "Start Jobs." Repeat for the next program. You can queue as many programs as you want.
Thanks BKDTV, kmttg works, and is great. I hadn't heard of it before. Strangely enough, after installing and using it, my Tivo desktop started working again too. (Go figure) Maybe it just needed to be threatened with being replaced! ;)

Go back to TiVo Desktop 2.6. No problems with that version.
Although a question about kmttg. Can it and TiVo Desktop be installed and both running on the same machine?
