I just found out that the fcc has passed a ruling recently that all premium channels will be codded with do not record codes. This means that hbo, etc. can be watched but cannot be saved. You want to watch later something you tivod at 3 am on hbo ?, too bad it will be thrown away after the show ends. This will affect all cable companies and dvrs in the counrty!

If it was true it would only be bad for the premium channels as we canceled them en masse.

I'm tempted to cancel just for the copy once flag being set on everything on HBO.

We just need to make sure they know why they're getting cancellations.

Where did this information come from? I haven't seen anything along these lines coming from the FCC. In the days of "watch on your own schedule", you know HBO, Starz, etc. would have a crippling wave of cancellations if this were to go forward.

I just found this out from a Comcast technician who was working with me on this very problem. We swapped cards all day long thinking it would cure the problem, and he followed up on it, and just told me this was new FCC ruling, and would affect every cable company and dvr in the country. I guess I was one of the first people to find this problem. I have been Googling this subject for days and cannot find anything about it. It is coming and everyone will be affected.

We know what you're being told; the question is: Why do you possibly believe it?

The forums here are full of Comcast techs and reps being wrong. They are a particularly bad source of info, especially when it means they can pass the buck and not solve your problem for you. Sorry, you just seem to be somewhat gullible here. I can believe your franchise is choosing to do something along these lines, but the FCC can't mandate anything like this.

O.k. believe what you will, but I'm experiencing it. I wasn't trying spread misinformation with mailce, I was just to pass it along. Thanks all of so much!!!!
I won't bother you anymore.

You are experiencing a problem created by Comcast because of mistakes on their side. You are not experiencing a problem because of any new legislation.

You need to contact Comcast until they fix this for you.

Good luck with that. Good luck getting anyone at Comcast who knows anything about cable cards. They do not like to deal with them.

The onyl way I have had success in my case was to find out EXACTLY the technical details of what needs to happen, THEN speak to a supervisor about it.

Heck, even the guy (contractor) that came out to install my cable cards didn't have a clue. I had to walk him through it.

Like I said, good luck with that! Just get all your facts and technical detail straight before you even attempt to deal with comcast on the subject.
