Just a reminder that DirecTV will begin airing Deadwood and Oz on Channel 101 in HD, uncut from start to finish beginning this Sunday. I have never seen Oz so I am happy to get them all in order and in HD. And oh by the way for anyone who has not watched it from start to finish, Deadwood is one of the BEST series EVER.

Thanks for the heads up:up:. I saw a promo yesterday and set my SPs, but had I not, this would have probably been the only reminder I would have gotten before Sunday night.

I think it's great that Directv is showing these awesome shows uncut and in their entirety. Smith and Trailer Park Boys are great shows. Looking forward to Deadwood and Oz.

I watched Oz when it originally aired. Then a few months ago one of the HBO channels started airing it again from the beginning on Saturday nights. They got about half way through and stopped a few weeks ago. That was about the time this deal with DTV was announced. So apparently this is an exclusive agreement. Now I'll have to start from the beginning again. :)

Cool, I am really looking forward to Oz then if you think it was better than Deadwood.

I do think it was better than Deadwood (and I loved Deadwood), but Oz is not everyone's cup of tea.

How many new episodes per week do they show on the 101? Just 1 like normal networks? I wanna catch both these shows, but I am leaving for vacation next week and don't want to fill up thr TiVo if it's too many.

I believe it's just one a week of each show.

Thanks for the heads up! I was about to start getting Deadwood via NetFlix- I'll enjoy it automagically on the DVR instead.

Once you set up the SP, take a look at the ToDo List and make sure it isn't picking up duplicates. I haven't recorded a series off of T101 since Dexter, so I can't remember if it tends to pick up ALL showings, or just all UNIQUE showings.

I just want to say that Deadwood was one of the best shows ever. Shakespearean. If you don't get the language the first episode, don't delete it. It get better and better. I think it's one of the best written shows ever made.

I am getting Oz now. Thanks!

David Milch has a unique writing style. Many of the Deadwood episodes sounded a lot like NYPD Blue episodes (minus the profanity of course). :)

Oz was great. Deadwood was, quite simply, the greatest show ever in the history of television.

I loved Oz from its HBO days. I will be recording the repeats.

By the way Directv 101 is great! Just finished the final episode of "Sleeper Cell", which I'm glad I was able to catch.

Watched Oz on 101 last night. Did anyone else notice there was no center audio channel? Also, it appears this was zoomed and cropped (OAR was 1.33:1, as far as I can tell). I think I will probably watch this on DVD instead of DirecTV. It looks like it was shot on video, so it wouldn't benefit much from the HD upconvert, anyway.

First time I'd ever seen Oz and I'm glad it was posted here - great show and I'm looking forward to more.

The picture wasn't good for me either. But, it wasn't as bad as other shows. I didn't notice the sound but I have a sound bar anyway and not full surround.

Yeah - I have never seen more than a random 5 minute clip of Oz. Great first episode - I thought it looked OK (not great but acceptable). Was it shot in Widescreen initially on HBO or was it like The Wire (4x3 only)?

And man, I have watched the pilot episode of Deadwood a bunch of times - and I watched it again. So great! I did not have an HDTV back when I watched this series initially. So a great reason to watch it all over again in HD!

There were several scenes where the framing looked wrong, like it had been cropped. Also, the age of the series and the appearance that it was shot on video, all contribute to my belief that this was originally 4:3. Nothing conclusive, though.

IMBM says 1.78:1 in the tech specs, but 1.33:1 for the DVD.

I have all the seasons of Oz on DVD. One of the best, if not also most disturbing, shows ever on TV. I would HIGHLY recommend it. :)

Deadwood has potential based on what I saw of the first episode. But Oz sure did suck. Bad acting, bad writing, bad cinematography. It gets better? It's boring so far.

Indy, you must stick with Deadwood. It's a fantasic show and you're obviously in the early setup phase introducing everyone. They'll all find their groove quickly.

Never seen Oz, can't comment on that.

Oh, I plan on sticking with Deadwood. It seems interesting enough. But Oz kinda sucks.

I'm looking forward to checking out Oz. It seemed to be spoken quite well of, but I think it also was a very gritty show before gritty was widely available (in the same manner as The Shield?).

Not based on the first episode.

Oz developes well, the interpersonal play between characters evolves.

You should really try to stick it out a few eps Indy. It definately has it's own style.

It's also fun to see a LOT of the L&O regulars in Oz, where they got their big break.

I had the opposite opinion as you Indy. I liked Oz, but I've also seen some random episodes before, so I know I like it. Deadwood, seemed kind of boring to me. My gf fell asleep halfway though the first episode. I think I saw it record 2 more last night, so I'm not sure if they are both "new", but I'll probably check out a few more episodes since it is spoken so highly about here.

I'll stick with both for a while longer. There's nothing else on anyway.
