I know this problem varies from affiliate to affiliate, but it looks like FOX-5 in D.C. finally has the guide data correct for the Simpsons repeats. It used to be an intermittent thing, a couple months with episode-specific data, a couple months with generic data. But the latest stretch has been about 2-3 years of generic data. At times I've used a recurring manual recording, but for the past year or two, I've gone through the To Do List about once a week and cancelled all the repeats, then deleted the SP over the summer. I was about to do that this weekend, and when I checked the To Do list, I noticed that there weren't any Simpsons episodes. When I looked at the program guide, I saw that the repeats actually had non-generic guide data.

Actually, this problem had sort of been resolved for me for a few months. Over the past couple years, all of my TiVo units have been replaced with DirecTV HD DVR's. The logic in those used to work differently than the TiVo software. That is, if it didn't say whether it was a repeat or first run, it assumed that it was a repeat. Therefore, it didn't record the generic guide data episodes. But they evidently made a change to the software some time last year, shortly after I had replaced my last TiVo, so that it started recording all of the repeats.

I just hope it lasts this time. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Interesting. I had to cancel my season pass to the Sunday night Simpsons because of this. Maybe I'll try again.

It totally depends on your local affiliate that's showing the reruns. Ours here has always (7+ years) been fairly good about it, but occasionally there is an episode or two that slip through.

Are your reruns on the Fox affiliate? If so, I can see how that would be a problem. Here, the Simpsons reruns are on different channels than the first-run episodes so that's not a problem.

They are here. I think they are in a lot of places, just from what I've read about this problem before, but the problem with the guide data happens at the affiliate.

i get a number of repeats on saturdays and some weeknights on our fox station...just let the hdtivo record them sometimes..they are good.

I'm really bugged about the hr20 not knowing about certain other shows being repeats but thats for another day

So much for it being fixed. Not only did it go back to generic guide data a few weeks ago, but they now have 2 repeats every day including weekends, instead of just weeknights at 7:00 pm. There was no way I can keep up with deleting that many episodes from my To Do list on multiple DVR's, so I finally gave in and set up a recurring manual recording.
