Man am I frustrated. I knew I was going to be moving my S3 upstairs when the home theater guy got around to coming out to pull the rack out and do some other work. So I got my drive all upgraded, I went through a few cable cards getting ones that worked and got it all setup. Life is good.
We move it upstairs, and put it in the rack and verify things are working. He then finishes his other work, slides the rack back in and goes on his merry way.
I then notice that a channel I recently added to my subscription wasn't coming up. Huh. Weird.
So I call comcast whose first question is, of course, "what are the serial numbers?" I tell the tech that it's sealed in a rack and I can't really get in there to look, so could she please just send a refresh to the two cards on my account. She argued with me, over and over until I remembered I could get that information from the cablecard setup menu.
That's when I noticed something odd.
Cablecard 1, while inserted, is not showing up properly. It shows up as "not subscribed" and it has no serial number.
I don't know a great deal about cablecards, but as I have gone through a lot of bad ones trying to get this S3 going, I am wondering if maybe that reader is just fraked.
What would cause a card to not report normally? I don't want to have him come out again to pull the rack out (it's a real pain...I can do it myself, but seriously, it's a big big pain) unless i know it's going to be fixable.
Any ideas?
(UPDATE: All channels coming in, though the cablecard still shows a very weird status)
