My mom and dad are 89 years old. I had their system setup so that they could use their LCD TV for satellite tv, their Mac Mini computer, and my dad's Webtv unit. Their old DVR, I don't know the model number but it was the standard issue about two or three years ago. They are having a hard time adapting to the new remote that came with the new unit. Can the old black peanut remote be used with the new DirecTV Plus DVR?

Sorry no!

You might want to look at a Harmony remote to control everything. Many models have the peanut shape and you could program it to function like they are used to.

They are not capable of handling any new type of remote. I had a Harmony and liked it but I know that they would not be able to handle it.

I think you'd be surprised on how well your parents could handle a change.

Otherwise, they'd have to use their existing remote for everything other than DVR control.
