I just started having this problem recently. Every day now when I turn on my TV and AV reciever to watch TV (Tivo) I have to reboot my Tivo.
The TV comes on and the screen is blue with no picture or sound. Tivo remote does not work.
The only solution is to reboot the Tivo. After that, all is well.
I don't have any expanders attached and use the Tivo wireless adapter. I recently added the tuner adapter for Cox (Phoenix) but this problem started happening a few weeks before I added that.
Once I reboot the Tivo, all works just like it should, no problems. I have to do this every day now. I will watch TV the night before, shut everything off, then the next day... problem.
Any thoughts out there???
Thanks!

I have not seen this problem, but I've seen people mention it for other DVR products when HDMI-CEC is enabled.

I'm guessing your TiVo is connected via HDMI. You might want to see if your TV has an option to disable "HDMI CEC" or "HDMI power control." Look for any HDMI option related to power.

shot in the dark- if you switch inputs on the tv from HDMI to something else and back- does that fix it?

PS- I have an S3 with a samsung with HDMI-CEC and have no issues- so if HDMI-CEC is a problem then it's probably one of weird little HDMI imcompatibility thinjgs between different brands. Just when I thought HDMI has all the kinks worked out.....

I just started having the same problem with my Series 2 DT box. I have had the same setup for the past 2.5 years, with it on my wireless home network. But, lately, it is frozen and needs a hard reboot in order to get it working again. It makes me suspicious of recent software updates. Any advice would be appreciated! But, as with a Series 2, I am just using coax and RCA connectors(!?!).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I am at work right now but I will check for HDMI settings when I get home.
I recently installed a new AVR receiver (Denon 2809ci) which has HDMI switching and the Tivo is connected to the Denon with a single HDMI cable, then a single HDMI cable going from the Denon to the TV. After that install, everything worked fine for about 1 week. After about a week is when this issue arose. Maybe that is the problem. Do you thing I need to check HDMI settings on the Denon too?
Thanks again!
Keith

I'm not certain but I am pretty sure the issue then is between the denon and the tivo. I think they do their own handshake that has nothing to do with the tv. Try changing sources on the denon to see if it forces a fresh handshake with the tivo. The Denon MIGHT (no idea how they behave)- be putting a blue screen up because it's not getting a proper handshake from the tivo. Occasionally I had similar issues with my older Panasonic tv and the S3- every now and again they wouldn't handshake correctly and I'd either get snow or a pink screen- switching inputs would force a new handshake and correct it. Maybe the denon being nicer puts up the blue screen instead of the snow when it can't get a proper handshake.

So you use standby on the tivo? Do you have a universal remote? I'm not certain but standby maybe shutdown the HDMI output from the S3. if so you might be ablke to use that to your advantage to program a sequence in a universal remote to wake up the tivo and turn on the receiver in a certain order to avoid the problem- if it does turn out to be a handshake issue.

What type of TV do you have? This is a known problem for users of DLP sets whereby the powering on bulb in the TV emits intereference that causes the TiVo to freeze and reset. I solved the problem in my case by moving the TiVo down one shelf and putting the receiver on the shelf above it to block the interference.

Menu -> Manual Setup -> HDMI Setup -> HDMI Control -> Off.

I would guess that your 2809ci is similar.

Hmmm, I have a 65" Mitsubishi DLP TV. I really can't move the Tivo or AVR since the tv stand only has 2 shelves which are directly below the TV. I will mess with the HDMI settings in the Denon to see if that works as well as changing the HDMI input on the Denon. Thanks again for everyone trying to solve my problem here! Great input.

Thanks bkdtv, I will give it a shot. The setup and configuration settings in these Denon's are a bit harder than they need to be in my opinion.
If that doesn't work then this is a perfect excuse to buy a new flat panel TV!

I have. In fact, I had it on the system in my living room. It's not an artifact of the set, per se, but of the EMP produced by the start-up of the set. The bulb subsystem instantaneously draws a huge amount of current, producing a significant EMP. The problem is usually worst if the Tivo has an external hard drive and sits close to the bulb assembly. On my system, it started abruptly when I got the external drive a couple of years ago and stopped a few weeks ago when I combined the internal and external drives into a single large internal drive. In the interim, I replaced the eSATA cable supplied with the enclosure with a better shielded one, and the frequency of issues decreased significantly. Moving the TiVo further from the bulb enclosure (setting it on the floor) stopped the issue, as well, but like the OP, I could not employ this as a permanent fix, as the only available space in the entertainment center is right below the bulb housing.

The OP's symptoms don't sound the same, however. First of all, he says he has the issue every time he turns on the TV. My symptoms and those of others who I have seen mention the same problem I had were more intermittent. Perhaps every 5th or 6th time I would turn on the TV the problem would manifest. Secondly, it was never a blue screen. Usually it would cause sluggish or intermittent responses from the TiVo followed by a lock-up and automatic reboot. Sometimes it would produce a GSOD which would resolve in a few minutes, or sometimes the Tivo would claim it could not play some programs in the schedule. The symptoms would resolve after a reboot, whether automatic or manual.
