I have been using DirecTv series 2 for about 8-10 years. I have 5 units at present. At the time I got them I was quite involved in the forums and went through all the usual hacks. They have been working pretty flawlessly since then, but lately

1) guides and scheduled recordings seem to be failing
2) The kids want me to upgrade for HDTV service
3) They want the scheduling ability over internet and eaase of use of the series 3 tivos.

My question is what do I upgrade to? Is there a DirecTV replacement with Tivo seroes 3 software?

do I need Tivo and a seperate DVr? Any suggestions appreciated

Joe

Right now, your only choice for all of this is the DirecTV HR2x series (non-TiVo.) You can get all of DirecTV's HD, internet scheduling, and some features TiVo doesn't offer. The user interface is different, however, and takes getting used to.

You cannot use a standalone TiVo of any kind for this now.

By this time next year, maybe, there will be a DirecTV HD box with TiVo software. Exactly what that will look like, we don't know.
