Today we upgraded to the HD DVR from DirecTV after many years of perfecting the use of the old units. Wow, what a difference...

Anyway, I cannot for the life of me get the "DirectTV & TV Power" buttons to work. They only turn on and off the DVR. I have the TV set up and the power button while in the TV position works just fine. Any ideas?

Vizio TV if it helps...

You may want to ask this over at www.dbstalk.com - or search there. The TV Power button should not affect the DVR.

Also ask in the "Remote Controls" forum at http://forums.directv.com where our resident remotes guru hangs out.

Let me restate... the TV power button does not affect the DVR. There is a button that is supposed to turn on and off the TV & DVR. It only turns off the DVR however.

The dedicated TV Power buttons works fine.

Why ask there, out of curiosity? More activity?

Yes. And this hasn't been a good DirecTV info forum for a few years now. DBSTalk and Satguys are the top DirecTV forums along with DirecTV's own forums. The DirecTV with Tivo forums here are basically dead in comparison. Certainly still the place for the old DirecTivo units but not even close for anything new like the new DVRs.

On DBSTalk look up posts by Edmund. He's the remote guru.

Hopefully this forum will come back to life when the new DirecTV HD Tivo gets closer to reality early next year.

Isn't there a procedure to map the TV power to the remote power button, without having to select the TV section on the remote?

The manual or remote setup on the unit should explain this.

No, its upto the code you use and model of tv you have if the TV ON & OFF keys will work or not.

As for the vizio, if you have an older remote use code 10056, but if you have the rc64 remote, the code to use is 11758.

I hope so too.

Yep, 11758 works perfectly on my two Vizio HDTVs. The power off turns the TV and the HR22/23s off(standby) while the power on turns the TV on and the HR22/23s on(out of standby).
