View Full Version : Reboots with Tuning Adapter?

I'm having a problem with my Series3 TiVo. While it's possible that I need to replace the internal drive, I'm trying to narrow it down.

Since I got a Tuning Adapter, occasionally I get a delayed tune of a channel. I've seen failures to tune SDV, but the funny thing is that the channel will tune for about 10 seconds THEN I'll get the Channel Unavailable message. The TA seems locked up, then in about a minute it will initialize itself.

On one of my Tivo S3, I've started to have the TiVo reboot after a failed tune. Last night, watched a recorded show. Watched live TV for 5 minutes. Hit "Live TV" to switch tuners, Gray screen (no banner), TiVo reboots.

Anyone experiencing something similar?

Unhook the TA for a couple days and see if the problems go away.
I got tired of mine re-booting all day.

If you're using cable card(s) you shouldn't need a tuning adapter.

That's just extremely inaccurate.

+1 on the inaccurate.

Tuning Adapters are needed to watch SDV (Switched Digital Video) channels, that Time Warner insists on using.

Is the OP also rebooting the tuning adapter (once in a while)? That has worked for me to speed up time changing channels and tuning in.

My bad. I was thinking of the Digital Tuning Adapters.

Yes, I've rebooted them. They also seem to be fond of "rebooting" themselves.

Sometimes they'll be in "steady blink" mode. I have to use the switch on the front to turn it on/off and it will work immediately.

We waited months for these, there was time to get the bugs out. I curse SDV.

Also, I want to know how many old ladies sit at home and watch the shopping channels, because the are NOT on SDV. TW say "less" popular channels move to SDV.

Why do I keep seeing this thread and thinking "Robots with Tuning Adapter"?

Update:

My second Series 3 is deciding to respond slowly to the remote, lockup and then reboot (while on a SDV channel).

I hope TiVo is working on a fix. This one doesn't have any external storage.

I find it hard to believe I have two drives going bad (on different vintages of Series 3).

I had the same problem with Cox Cable and a M card on a TiVoHD. The Tivo would reboot multiple times a day. I went through the start up/set up procedure again, and it has been rock solid since.
