Flashing Info Overlay?

I just got a TivoHD and one of the first things I noticed is that when I switch channels while watching live tv, the info overlay flashes in between the channel change. The tv dips to black between channels and the info overlay flashes on - just in the black.
I've tried all the different video output formats just to make sure I wasn't causing some sort of delay because of my setup - but the behavior stays the same no matter what the setting is.
This can't be normal. What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure I entirely understand your question.

Do you have the TiVo set to fixed 720p or fixed 1080i under Settings -> Video -> Video Output Format? You should use one of those settings to eliminate the on-the-fly resolution switches.

If you want the INFO banner to show on the screen for a shorter period of time, that is an option in Settings.

Channel changing time was improved with the latest software versions. If you just got your TiVo, you may not have the 11.0 software yet.

I checked that first - just to make sure I wasn't making any obvious newbie mistakes and I do have my video output set to fixed, and my software has updated to 11.0c

The problem is not how long or short I want the info banner to appear. The banner works perfectly when I push the button (and is very helpful - I like all of the actions I can invoke from it.)
The problem is that the info banner is flashing on the screen when I don't push the button - only in the brief black in-between channel changes.
I'm not really concerned with the lag, the black doesn't bother me - it's that no matter how I go from one channel to another - numeric entry, channel up or down, or pressing last - I see the white text in the blue box flash on the screen only during the black between channels and then flash off when the picture appears.
Even when I tune a channel from the guide, I get the same thing.

I've never seen this, but then I don't have any analog channels. I assume you are seeing this with analog channels?

Do you see this with both component and HDMI video output?

No analog channels.
Hdmi in.

Could this be some setting that I haven't set up properly?

Ok, I'm an idiot...

I automatically set the channel banners set to 'clear quickly' when I did my initial set-up, but I guess the lag time between channels is exactly the same length as the 'quick' version of the banner.

Who knew?

I've reset them to 'normal' and now I understand what the Tivo is supposed to be showing me when I change channels.

I wish there was a setting between the two...

The normal setting stays on too long and the hide quickly setting is way too fast.
