View Full Version : Recording Problems with Pioneer Tivo
New Pioneer

I've noticed that since the last upgrade of the Tivo software I am having problems burning DVDs on all three of my Pioneer Tivos. Sometimes they fail at the end of the process and sometimes at the beginning. I am using the Maxel DVD-RW up to 2x max disks that have worked fine for the past three years but now have problems recording both new and old disks. Cleaning the drive does not seem to help at all. The software now loaded is 9.3.2b-01-2-275. Anyone else experiencing problems?

I don't know if it happened since the last service update or not. But I am having trouble burning DVDs as well. It fails usually 30-40 % saved for a full disk and 80-90% for a partial disk.
I get an "internal error" "save not complete".
Is this what you get as well?

I've been having a terrible experience burning DVDs over the last few months, maybe since January. I am using the same DVDs that I've used for the last few years (Verbatim 16X, 100 pack, takes awhile to get through that many). Here's what I've experienced:
1) soft and cold rebooting, then burning the DVD, get a failure that is either an internal error or says that something's wrong with the DVD.
2) going to settings and resetting the DVD and then attempting ot burn, get the same errors.
At the end of the failed burning, I can move to any area within the TIVO, watch live TV, watch from the stored videos, but I cannot open the tray; I have to unplug the unit to open the tray to extract the disk. This sounds more like a software issue than a hardware issue and would like to know if an update is scheduled to correct this issue.

I am having the same problem with the same issues and messaging. I also have problems opening the tray after recording fails. I am wondering if this is an HD issue since the burner is not an HD burner an much of the recorded programmng is.

I am experiencing the same problems went thru about 10 disc only 1 recorded. I tried using a DVD-RW and it recorded. Is there any way I can move the hard drive to a computer and retrieve the data or be able to burn to my computer burner. Need help as I have over 20 hours of family videos on this unit.

I'm experiencing the same issue described by others. My Tivo DVD burner has worked satisfactorily for many years. It's always been a little finicky with some DVD brands, but Verbatim DataLifePlus has always worked fine. Until about 3 or 4 months ago. Now, every attempt to burn a DVD ends in with "You program(s) could not be copied because of an internal error."
It seems to be bigger than just a DVD issue, however. I'm also having trouble transferring files using Tivo Desktop. At first, about ever 1 out of 10 transfers would end up with an error message. Now, I cannot transfer any shows to my PC. So essentially, the DVD and networking functions of my DVR are dead.
Anyway idea what could have caused this? I'm suspicious it's the result of a Tivo firmware update.

The Burner on my Humax is still working fine. I do occasionally see that error when I try to burn a show that is somehow corrupted. Taking the bad show out of the list of shows to burn allows the rest to burn fine. Why a show gets corrupted occasionally is unknown to me, but could be due to errors on the hard drive or from the satellite box.
If you have video glitches, pixelation spurts, and audio dropouts our squeaks in a show, it most likely will not burn. If that happens often, I would check the hard drive using the kick stat procedure to see if that helps.
Best of luck to you.
