Whats up with this.....

I was scheduled to record NY Ranges v Washington capitals on Versus HD.

I come home and it's not recorded with the following message.

"This program was not recorded because either the TiVo Digital Media Recorder is not authorized for this channel, the program was not purchased, or the program was not available in your area."

this is a channel that I get. In fact its showing MMA fights right now.

I am in southern CA so no blackout issues (we did have some problems with ducks games last week) and I believe I saw it being shown live at a bar I was at that has the same cable provider.

Glitch or something more sinister? Who would I gripe to??

Sounds to me like someone at your cable company accidentally switched to the wrong feed, even if only for a few minutes. I had that happen once last year with Versus on Comcast.

Cable providers have access to two feeds for Versus. They have the main feed and they have a alternate feed that shows other programs for blackout viewers. The provider may use different QAMs and/or video PIDs for these two feeds. If the TiVo starts recording one of these feeds with a particular QAM and/or video PID, and then the provider switches over to the alternate feed on a different QAM and/or video PID, then the original channel (as the TiVo sees it) no longer exists, so the recording is halted and canceled with the message you posted above.

My guess is that someone at your cable company switched over to the wrong feed by accident, and then returned to the correct feed at some point after the TiVo had already canceled the recording.

That makes sense. I use cablecards in my tivo, so it must be responsible for shutting down the channel when it sees an unsubscribed PID. Once that happens tivo sees no signal so recording is aborted and the message created. Right?

What is the typical title of the person at the cable provider that would be in a position to make a mistake like you mention?
