My Tivo with 6.2 software rebooted @ 8:35est this evening because of new software. Anyway, 6.4 is now loaded, but the last time my Tivo dialed out successfully was Apr 24, today is the 27th???Is it possible the updates come through the data stream and not just from dialing Tivo??
I had been dialing to Tivo daily trying to force the update but gave up on the 24th....

Some members of this forum have reported receiving it by satellite. If you have DSL make sure you have DSL filter on tivo phone line. Good Luck:)

I think they put it in the satellite stream every so often.

Duffycoug:
Welcome back, If the Satellite does't work try the baud rate adjustment.Go to: Directv Central -> Messages and Settings -> Settings -> Phone -> Change Phone Settings -> Dial in number -> Enter area code -> 034 then left arrow back to phone connection and connect to the DVR service now. see if a lower baud rate works and you get your download. Good Luck. :D

DirecTV TiVo updates have been delivered via the satellite for quite some time. However, they don't stay there indefinitely, and a phone call is then needed to download the software. Also, a phone call is needed to cause the new software to be installed.

FINALLY 6.4A !!!! Looks like those who said it updates via satellite were correct, although I always have mine connected to a phone line....but it updated overnight somehow someway. My service data downloads always happend around 3-4 am, so I'm assuming that wasn't a call since it shows my last "service connection" call at an ealier time....either way, I have it now so I'll see if that fixes the reboots....if not, I will be replacing the drive....also nice to have the folders and other updates.

Had my TV on ALL day today....not ONE reboot...normally there would have been at least 10 during this time period if not more...looks like the software update did the trick.

YES! 6.4 without a phone call. I gave up during April when the clock was off by an hour...
Next is to try to schedule something remotely.

Remote schedule not working - I get a message stating that the the program is not on the guide. Will try a reboot later on... ugh.. But recently deleted folder is there...
"Your online request for .... has been received. However this program COULD NOT be scheduled to record because it does NOT YET appear in your program guide."
Program Guide data shows to be good until May 17th.

Maybe before, not this time...

Yup - however after a week of 6.4, my hughes died. Looks like the power supply. This was my spare one. The R10 I had, the remote receiver board went bad (no longer could use a remote).
Got an R15 as a replacement (free). Oh well...

I must have received it by satellite. My notifications say I haven't telephoned the DTV service since August 22, 2008. Have the 6.4 update as of last Sunday morning.

It's actually a call to TiVo that triggers the update. The call to DirecTV is separate.

I had a Hughes that sat in a closet since Sept. 07, when I replaced it with an HR20. My 2nd receiver was an R10. In January, the R10 went bad, so I replaced it with the Hughes.
My Hughes was not plugged into a phone line. It never worked due to having Vonage VOIP. And these models cannot have the modem slowed down to 9600.
I have done manual phone calls via serial PPP back in January trying to update the 6.2 to 6.4. Though calls were successful, at the time, the bits were not in the stream. I forced calls many times, and always checked for 'pending restart'. Even done restarts anyway.
Went thru April with the whole guide off by an hour, since 6.2 had the old Daylight Savings Time rules.
All of a sudden, a week+ ago, discovered the 'Recently Deleted Folder' - Yes, 6.4 was installed even though I haven't done any serial PPP calls in a while - there is no phone line attached anyway.
So bits were reintroduced in the stream and somehow it did not require a call to TiVo.
