I've scoured the site and can't find the answer to my question, so pardon if it's already been answered elsewhere. Please direct me to that posting.

I have digital cable with Comcast, through a digital cable box already. A couple of days ago my channels 37 thru 58 are black and there's an error message "Tivo trying to connect: Basic cable in" or something like that.

I pay for digital cable already and am not sure why this is happening. Do I need to reconnect my cable box, tivo and TV another way? Right now I'm splitting the signal. Do I need to go straight from the wall to the box to the tivo to my tv? Will that work? Oh, I have a series 2 box.

Any help is appreciated!

I assume that Comcast switched those channels to digital. I'll bet you have a Series 2 dual tuner. Go into the channels menu under settings un-check CBL and check BOX for any channel that is not coming it. This tells the Tivo to use the cable box to tune the digital channel. A Series 2 only has analog tuners, so it needs a set top box to tune any digital channels.

Yup, that's exactly what it is. Somehow I figured that Tivo would "know" about this and that I wouldn't have to spend time going in and setting the channels manually, but alas, no. (In other words, I thought that either Tivo would change the line-up of the basic channels or that re-running guided set-up would fix it.)

For those who just get "expanded basic" cable without a cable box, you can get a free "digital tuning adapter" from Comcast to fix the issue.

If you have a cable box, then you just need to do what has been mentioned above.

It's kind of a bummer if you have a dual tuner unit, though, I have to say, because it greatly reduces the number of channels that can be recorded at the same time in dual mode.
