Got a coworker that wants to try tivo. He wants to activate my older 80hr Humax recorder. Does tivo still allow cancellation of the 1yr term before 30days? After 30days can he still swap recorders with a TivoHD without a penalty?

Yes, Tivo allows cancellation within the first 30 days. Once he is on a plan, he can swap another Tivo for the one on the plan (not for lifetime). So if he is 6 months in and wants a Tivo HD, he can swap the subscription to an HD.

So if he is thinking about lifetime he better do it in the first 30days.

Yes. Once you are past the 1st 30 days, you can not change to lifetime until your current plan is up. Lifetime is tied to the specific Tivo, and can not be transferred to another Tivo.

does it have lifetime? I don't want to pay more money for TiVo service again until I move to an HD TiVo
