When I was dusting the tivo this morning I was dusting around the power cable and something must have happened. The tivo rebooted and there was sparks from inside the tivo.

I opened the tivo and the underneath of the power supply board somehow shorted. I can see the burn marks where one of the pins are soldered

I thought I would see everyone's opinion if it actually hurt the motherboard and be worth the $49 replacement cost. I'm leaning towards doing it since it is a series 2 with lifetime. I just hate to waste the money to find it killed other parts when it shorted.

Has anyone had this happen to them before?

Nobody in the world would know the 100% answer for your question, if you had a friend with the same TiVo switching the PS would answer the question.
Purchasing the PS with return rights would answer the question without much cost.
Its also possible to have corrupted your hard drive.

Your description is also almost exactly the description of cold solder joints, especially if the burn marks are only on the board, and not at all on the base of the unit.

If that's the case, simply resoldering the bad joints will resolve the issue.
