This show started soooo slow for me. But I hanged on and glad I did. Was my third favorite show of last year (behind LOST and Dexter). Can't wait!

Huh. I've never heard of this show but it looks fun. In a bloody gruesome kind of way... What is the general premise of this show? I'm probably on board as long as it's not about "Vampires". I'm sick of those... :p

These vampires are the "real" deal. No Twilight crap.
They're "out of the closet" so to speak. Some are accepting of them most are not. It's kinda like the mutants in the X-Men series.

I think most will tell you that it takes a couple of episodes to find its legs and it gets better. It is a pretty good series...

Yeah the basic premise is that vampires are now "out" in society, partly thanks to a Japanese corporation's invention of a synthesyzed (sp?) drink derived from actual blood, basically eliminating the need for vampires to feed off humans. The show focuses on a small town in Lousiana, and more specifically, the relationship between a civil-war era vampire and a telepathic waitress.
Man I should write synopses for a living :)... Anyway, I really like the show, it's kind of quirky and does it's own thing. There's one aspect of the show that I don't think I'm a fan of which is the inclusion of other types of mythical beings, especially in the upcoming season. Sam the shapeshifter, Maryanne that WTF, demons, werewolves, etc... But I have to see how it plays out.
Sidenote: the chick who plays Arlene is actually Michael Emerson's wife (Ben from Lost).

Definitely-I almost dropped it in the first few episodes-but about 4 episodes in I was hooked for life. I think it was the episode where you learn Bill's backstory....

I think the important thing about the Japanese synthetic blood is that it is NOT made from actual blood. The point is that vampires can survive now without harming humans, therefore live and let live. If they aren't harming anybody, why should anyone care about their lifestyle? Of course on the show, some vampires still prefer real human blood.
Vampires in the show are symbolic of other groups which are accepted/rejected or hated/tolerated in society.

Since the end of the first season I have read the first 4 books. Now I can't wait for the series to resume! :D

It's a bayou soap opera with vampires.

I slammed through the entire series and then immediately reread all of them again. The next one (#9) is due out in May.
I love Eric in both the books and the show- wowser.
I enjoyed this series so much that I kept all 12 episodes on a Tivo plus an additional full twelve hour recording of a marathon.
I can't decide which to keep so I kept them all :o

HBO has all of last season on line to watch for anyone who hasn't seen it and want's to catch up (or just can't get enough of the show). I hope they put the current episodes online fairly quickly after they air. I had to cut back my cable subscription and I don't get HBO anymore.

The "watch" link there gives me a 1:24 video that is basically the "previously on" clip about this episode, that was played at the beginning of the following episode. Are you seeing the entire episodes there?

Rats. I thought those were full episodes. At least it seemed like it when I was in the website a couple of weeks ago. Looks like I'm going to have to wait until season 2 is out on disk to watch it if they're not putting the episodes on the web. Or find them some other way. ;)

Finally you can see them. We've been waiting a while to start this series. HBO On Demand is showing the first season of True Blood now... Right now it says episodes 1-6 should be on demand, but we have episodes 1, 4 and 5. Verizon FiOS - does anyon else have all 6 episodes?

We watched the first episode and loved it. I wrote and email to HBO in hopes of getting the missing episodes on Demand.

Surely HBO will re-air the first season prior to the 2nd season starting.

HBO ondemand is only accessible (for free) if you subscribe to HBO. So that still leaves me with looking for an alternative means of watching the show.

Are you serious?! (Rhetorical question, obviously. I know you're serious.) That stinks.:down::down:
