Was that the worst episode of Mythbusters, EVER, or what? Even the big boom couldn't save it.

Ugh. You guys talk, I need time to recover from the big bag of suck that episode was.

I enjoyed the double dip and banana myths...but the diamond thing was just stupid.

Sorry, seeing people slip on banana peels is just plain funny.

Also, any episode with New Mexico Tech, by default, rocks. :) Van Romero was my old boss.

I enjoyed it. Sure, it was low on intelligence, but every once in a while, that's okay.

I never get tired of seeing Adam fall down. :)

The whole "burn off the peanut butter by lighting the charcoal" was silly. Diamonds burn. Even if the process did create any diamonds (which was highly unlikely), burning the charcoal would have burnt the diamonds.

The charcoal and peanut butter thing was patently ridiculous from beginning to end. There wasn't any point to even dignifying it with a test. I was embarrassed for Kari that she had to take the time to do the test. The fact that they burnt through two microwaves wasting their time doing the test just makes it all that much worse.

Having seen a show that depicted how artificial diamonds are grown in a lab, I could tell that the pressure cooker test at least had a grain of truth to it. Still ridiculous, but somewhat less so.

The banana peel test was just stupid... what is next, a test to see if ice is slippery or snow is cold?

I'll admit having skipped over most of the double-dip test... once I saw that they were shocked that the control petri dish had bacteria, I just gave up and fast forwarded over that.

There have been lamer myths. Remember "Pyramid Power?"

I liked it. Sure, they didn't do any high end myths, but I think that tends to be when the show is at it's best.

The diamond bit was pretty lame, but it was better than Pyramid Power or Free Energy.

Did the 5,000 lb. explosion even DO anything? It looked like the real test of the diamond myth was done using the much smaller explosion with the black tube. It seemed like the only purpose of the 5,000 lb. explosion was simply for eye candy purposes. Did I miss something?

Other than the double dip myth, the rest of the show was pretty lame.

Not every episode can be a gem. :rimshot:

Still, kind of seems like they shot their wad with the Demolition Derby and Alaska specials.

I think they're saving that for the series finale.

Here's a good video showing some of Jamie's neurosis:

I don't know what the purpose of the 5000lb explosion was. I told my wife that i think that now MB is just blowing things up because they can. There was no point in such a large explosion. The small one would have been good enough.

SIDE NOTE: Is that the explosion that was in the news that shattered windows miles away?

The banana peel myth had me laughing more than any episode they've ever done. Especially after Jamie's outer suit ripped and he started "pooping' peanuts! OMG such funny stuff!

Overall, the episode was pretty much a no brainer. Minus Grant and Cory trying to make diamonds. At least those had a bit of mystery. Peanut butter and charcoal. Oh COME ON!

No, that was the cement truck explosion. This one did not break any windows (confirmed by Grant on Twitter)

So the blast is essentially directed upward. I don't recall there ever being any outside damage from the tests the whole time I lived there. You sure can hear them, though.

No... the "shatter windows" reference was from a news story about filming for this run of Mythbusters:
They were trying to literally "knock the socks off" a mannequin by igniting 500 pounds of ammonium nitrate. But the explosion was a lot bigger than they expected.

Edit: oops, is that a spoiler?

Whoops, I remember the story but wrong myth they were testing. At least I was somewhat right.

I also removed the episode reference in case someone did consider it a spoiler.

I'm thinking that the 5000lb explosive was there just because they could. There are probably some fans at NMT, and they figured this way they'd always be an important name at Mythbusters.

Probably better for a new thread on this topic (it it takes off) but I will respond to this. I don't see this as Jamie being a crappy boss or ******bag. It is his shop, he wants the stations setup and supplied a certain way to be more efficient. Sure the guy who stocks the stations was filming while Jamie was complaining, but everything was there (plus some) and the sharpie was misplaced. Chris can't control other people leaving extra things or not placing the sharpie back in the jar.

Well yeah, I disagree that Jamie is REALLY a d-bag. But it was funny to see how he wanted things "just so," and was criticizing so much he overlooked the sharpie and paper towels. :D

I agree. Also the video is from the Mythbuster's site but someone added the text and comments in it, someone who I don't think works for Jamie made the "remix".

Yeah, I would assume that, since they misspelled his last name. :)

That's the story I was thinking of. I knew it wasn't the cement truck since i remember the story being newer than that.

Nothing that I could tell, except to pander to the "ooooo... explosions..." audience.

I was also waiting to hear that they'd donated all the bananas to a local homeless shelter or something. Seems like they wasted a couple of tons of bananas just because they needed the peels.

They did, along with a hundred pounds of muffin bottoms.

Not their best effort, but the Alaska and Demo Derby Eps were so good I can forgive it. I had to "30SS" the part where they were spitting mouthfuls of "used dip" back into the bowl. That was just plain "gross". :p

MB doesn't hit a home run every time but even at it's worst, it's better than any of the copy cats out there.
