Correct me if I'm wrong....
Next week they start singing 2 songs each and there is only a bottom 2?
America so rarely gets it right. Well done. :)

Anyone know what the conflict with the judges backstage after the performance last night was? Was mention on the news before recording cut off.

I was hoping it would be Lil and Danny. I thought Anoop's performance and arrangement was much better than Danny's karaoke crap.
And how awkward was Matt's ringtone plug during the dance-class video? :D

Simon sometimes criticizes contestants for sounding like they are performing on a cruise ship. I wonder what he would have to say about these guys. :D
Worst of all, my son said "they look as old as you, dad!". Thanks, son. Thanks.

Could the lip syncing in the group number have been any more obvious? I guess when you're being trained by Paula Abdul, singing live isn't part of the deal.
Say what you will about Anoop, but he has manners and class.
How pissed would Simon have been if he used the save on Matt and then this week, Allison went home?

I don't think a single group number has been live this season. I actually thought the lipsyncing was better this time than before.

I love TiVo and the fast forward button.... Thankfully missed the Disco trio thing... still watched David though... and found the song pretty boring actually. Has it been on the radio?

The 2nd performer of the disco trio did great, IMO; it was the other two that were horrible. K.C. looked like he was terrified to be there. One of his stage dancers was smokin'; I kept hitting the rewind button on her.
Archuleta was horrible, as usual. Sounded boring; sounded bad.
The lip syncing during the group song was pretty bad tonight; usually I don't really notice it at all but it really stood out tonight. One the other hand, I thought they did a great job with the dancing.

Next week (spoilerizing cuz I don't want smacked and I can't keep up with the rules)
Next week, the Top 5 finalists – Kris Allen, Matt Giraud, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert – take the stage again Tuesday, April 28 (8:00-9:01 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) to perform standards made famous by members of the original Rat Pack, a group of legendary performers that included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
No official word yet on whether or not we get two songs each.

Yes, I joked to my wife that those singers paid American Idol to be on the show, and had to arrange their own airfare and lodging. Yikes...

God that was horrible.
Now we just need Matt to go home next week. I am leaning Adam/Kris/Allison in top 3, though clearly allison is in trouble.

I don't think a single group number has been live this season. I actually thought the lipsyncing was better this time than before.
I think they've done it both ways this season. For the first 4-5 weeks of the group numbers, they were obviously lip synched. Then, when I assume they got rid of enough of the bad singers, they had live performances for a few weeks. Last night, it appears that they went back to the lip synching due to the dancing.

I think the last two weeks have been live. The previous weeks were lip synced. But I thought this week's lip syncing was the worst yet (with the possible exception of Scott singing at perfect volume despite not being anywhere near the microphone, but that was just him (and he's blind)).

After the group performance, Ryan asked Paula to compare them to all the professionals she's worked with and to say whether they measure up to the professionals. (Recall this involved dancing, which is not supposed to be the contestants' area of expertise.)
Wasn't that a tacky, bordering on rude, question for Ryan to ask? Putting Paula on the spot there to rip on the people she just spent all that work on, or lie?
I thought Paula did a pretty good job handling that inappropriate question. Basically she complimented the contestants for all the hard work they did, but didn't really answer the question.
In another part of the night, Ryan asked a similarly tacky question to Simon, and he didn't put up with it as patiently as did Paula. He basically told Ryan that he's being facetious and to get back to doing the show.

Lil had way outlived her talent. She has sucked in almost every performance since Hollywood. Anoop sounded good and I was a bit surprised to see him go, but not real surprised.
I think it's really between Danny, Allison, and Adam? I like him (Adam) the best. I just wonder if Adam would go on to do original music or use his new-found-fame to start a Queen tribute band.

I don't "get" Allison. What is there about her that makes her look like a 30 yr old woman who was rode hard and put away wet. Too much makeup, too much hair ? Ugh. (shudder)
On another note, when Simon said he thought it was Lil's last performance, I thought it was ridiculous for her to dismiss the judges comment 'cause "she had fun". Who cares if you had fun- you sang lousy. Fun doesn't trump talent. It's not a contest about who had the most fun singing.

Allison has the same problem in my mind as does Danny. They don't sing pure notes. It's kind of a mixture of yelling and singing. Lil used to sing pure notes, but she got into the yelling thing, which turned me off.
Anoop sang pure notes, as does Adam and Kris.

Mostly from three groups:
1. From people who have never gone to a rock concert or spent an evening spinning albums sans TV
2. Those that don't get Adam and/or hate what he represents.
3. Those that like his back story: Good Christian that lost his wife before the show.

I'd love to hear Adam do a Queen song on stage. He did Bohemian Rhapsody in audition but that's it.
Who is voting for Matt!... Seriously..Anoop has been owning him for some weeks now and Matt is still here.
Allison just doesn't have teen boy appeal and thus bottom two next week however bad/awesome she sings.

i figured after the lip synch "scandal" broke, they went live to avoid further backlash.

heh, i read that as " I f'd him"
archuleta: it's amazing how, and it's not only him, but it's amazing how these singers can be so captivating on american idol, yet so uninteresting once they start putting stuff out. outside of the superstars (clarkson, carrie, daughtry, and maybe cook) their stuff is so boring.
the 70's retread: why would they put singers over 60 that are obviously way past their singing prime, that the majority of the audience have never heard of (maybe they heard of the song, but not the name of the singer)? it's painful to watch; the singers aren't doing themselves any favors, and it's a horrible show... not even remotely entertaining outside of the unintentional comedy.
the first lady was so horribly pulled back, and it looked like she was going to stumble off the stage. why do people continue to get this pulled back look? do they look at joan rivers and say, wow, i need to that look! i don't get it.

I feel like I almost have to put lip synching in quotes because they are so bad at it.

I noticed they quit the lip sync after Scott left (wondering if they were concerned about his dancing, singing and blindness). Last night I didn't mind the lip sync as it was more about the dancing then the singing (which doesn't make sense for this show as it is a singing competition) but I did enjoy watching them dance.

That's actually not true. This show is about finding a pop star that they can market and make money from. On average, a pop star that's a good dancer is going to be more marketable than one that isn't.

Yes this is true in a way. I mean that is why I think Adam is the best as he is the better performer. Kris is a great singer but I am not sure how great a performer he is.
Also sometimes being a pop star has nothing to do about signing ability and all about dancing. Case in point, Britney Spears.

Ok- official word is in.
If you go to the Americal Idol website (http://www.americanidol.com/) and mouseover where it says "Rat Pack Standards"* it reads "2 songs from each contestant".
This should prove interesting as last years Top5/10 songs was when PaulerGate occurred (judging performances before they were performed) and that was with only three judges.
*IMO no longer a spoiler as it is up on the official site and we have no in between episodes threads here
