I have a series 2 HD dvr and I am having huge issues with the remote. I have read all the forums and support pages. Nothing seems to work in the long run.
I have replaced the batteries. I have reset the remote. I have done a global reset. I have had a new remote shipped to me from Tivo. I have had the cable cards replaced 4 times with comcast. But still the same issue. I have to hit the same key over and over 10 or 20 times for the key to register. I have checked to see if there was any IR interference and I do not. Sometimes when I hit the remote buttons the orange light on the Tivo box comes on and other times it does not. Just very frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thank you.

You wouldn't happen to be using an LCD television, would you? If so, see if there's an energy saver feature setting on its menus -- and disable it. Also see if increasing the screen backlighting helps.

Thanks for the reply. I hooked this up for my father. He has just a regular TV nothing fancy. I checked for everything that could interfere. I took the cable card out and put that back in after a few minutes. Did same thing with the plug and the batteries in the remote. My Tivo works fine but I just can not figure out what the issue is with this one.

Going out on a limb here...
What kind of lighting is in the room, incandescent or CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light)?
I've read that some CFL bulbs can interfere with remote signals.

Try a "Wild Remote Hunt." What you describe are symptoms of another remote that is being activated. Could be hidden under a sofa cushion with the business end barely out. Somebody sitting on the sofa in just the right place could activate a button and cause what you are experiencing. TiVoes are picky about stray remote signals and don't work well with them around. Could be a TV, VCR or DVD remote that's the problem. Go on the hunt.

Thank You for everyone's suggestions. The light that is in the room is a stand alone lamp. There is a VCR, DVD, Comcast cable box all hooked up to Tivo plus the TV. I took all 4 of those remotes and put them in a different room. Seached under all cushions and the couch no stray RF's. I played around with it last night. For instance I hit guide could search programs for about 5 minutes. Then whatever I hit the orange light on the TIVO would not come on. I am just at a total loss here and customer service is no help because they want you to do all the fixes I have done over and over to no avail.

Could the problem be the TiVO itself? A simple way to test that theory is to use the remote on a different TiVo to see if the problems remain. Then again, I guess that other TiVo would have to be in the same room before something about the room itself could be ruled out.

Check your remote by looking at the business end with a digital camera veiwfinder. You should be able to the see the emmitter light up with each button press. If you don't, the remote could be defective.
Also what is a "series 2 HD dvr" in the original post? Series 2s are all SD.
