I am considering a dvd/VCR combo deck and noticed some decks have a tuner and some don't. Do I need a tuner deck or can I use a no-tuner deck (Panasonic has one), and feed off Tivo? Any help appreciated.

You don't need a tuner in your DVD/VCR Deck to record from your Tivo. Just use the Tivo's composite (yellow RCA) or SVideo output to feed the matching input on your DVD/VCR Deck, along with the analog audio (red/white RCA) connection.

I bought a sony dvd burner/vhs deck model RDR-VX560. It doesnt have a turner but it does up convert both the DVD and the VHS outputs thru a single HDMI cable. Most combo units have separate outputs for each and only up convert the DVD signal.

Thanks, figured it would be ok, just like my old dvd/VCR deck which did not record.

This up-convert thing isn't really for me, I'm happy with just plain old digital signal, even keep my old CRT as I get so tired of going over to friends with flat screens who insist on watching 4:3 in "zoom" mode, after all they paid for wide screen even if the figures are wider and distorted.
