I am new, and I have read and searched and am still confused
I have talked with Direct tv and asked if I can use my Tivo Dvr D73E with direct tv service and was told yes twice then was told no! Then called Tivo, then said No! I love my tivo, bought the expander hard drive and am finally happy with the storage I now have to keep recordings as long as I want. I am sad to loose that.
Can anyone please clarify for me? Where I am moving to they do not have Comcast only Direct Tv
I look forward to hearing from anyone and want to thank you in advance.

Maybe it's just me but I don't even know what a "D73E" is.
It sounds like you are talking about one of the TiVo HD models? If so, then, no you cannot record any satellite with the TiVo you have.
IF however, you have an older tivo, (series 1 or 2) then you CAN record some programs from the satellite by using the IR blasters to control the satellite box.
Hope I helped somehow. Maybe just go with digital OTA (over-the-air) only?

A quick Google on "D73E" found a lot of hits about a JVC camcorder.
So, will the OP please verify what the D73E is?

It is the 2nd one- D73E is the model number I believe
It is the Tivo with the cable card slot, yes
I cannot post a link here, it wont let me but if you go to tivo.com-store-and products -
So I am hearing that direct tv will not work with this box, but it will with the older series but they are not High Def
Can you tell me what this is (follow the link)
It is advertising to sell a direct tv tivo
again, won't let me post a link
Go to weaknees.com and directv-tivo.php
Thanks

If it has HD, then you have a TiVo HD which is NOT compatible with D* at all.
There is currently no TiVo that will work with D*. The Weaknees offerings are older DirecTV with TiVo service boxes that have been refurbished, but do NOT offer HD. The HR10-250 was an HD box, but it is extremely limited in its ability to receive HD signals (OTA and a few MPEG2 channels only, not the full MPEG4 offerings.
If you want to receive the full compliment of HD from D*, your only option at the moment is the non-TiVo HR2x from D* itself. There is supposed to be a TiVo box for D* on the way, but it is unlikely to be available before late '09/early '10.
