View Full Version : Tivo "for Tivo subscribers"?!?!

I came across a deal today for a TiVo HD DVR for TiVo subscribers at J&R Music (http://www.cheapstingybargains.com/118473/tivo-tivo-hd-tivo-hd-dvr-for-tivo-subscribers/). I have been planning to get rid of my upgraded S2 with lifetime for an HD box with dual tuners.

My confusion is that it's not clear what "for tivo subscribers" means. Does this simply mean they are selling the hardware but require you get a subscription (duh) or are they somehow suggesting that you can transfer your existing subscription to this new HD box for free (I can dream, right?).

I'd love to know the answer to this, and if it's not the deal I was hoping for what is the best way to achieve what I want? Can I not transfer my existing lifetime subscription at this time? If so, is the cheapest move for me to simply buy a Tivo HD at Amazon and simply purchase the lifetime subscription from Tivo afterwards?

Any informed advice would be very appreciated!

It is just poorly worded. They are selling the box at retail so there is no service requirement prior to buying.

And yes, you can move the service from another TiVo on to this new TiVo for free. You just do a TSN swap online.

Lifetime subscription transfers are not permitted. I've been watching and hoping, so I can replace my aging 540 S2.

Lifetime transfers are not currently allowed at this time, but as an existing TiVo owner, you can purchase lifetime for $299 instead of $399.

Note select Sears locations have the TivoHD new for $199. That's the best price I know of, aside from Amazon.

Good advice. Thanks!
