I have AT&T DSL at home. My TiVos used to send me daily emails. That stopped a long while ago. Today I was trying to fix it. I pinged smtp.sbcglobal.net to get the ip address. I edited my dailymail.cfg file and changed the ip address. I ran a test and at the end of the logging it indicated that it could not authenticate.
Is there anything I can do? I'm trying to sent the email to my non-att email address (I've never accessed that email account). Are there any other free mail servers that I can try to hit?
Thanks.

Do you have a DirecTV/Tivo DVR? I don't think your question applies to DirecTV/Tivo DVRs.

What additions have you made to the unit?
You might also want to check in the Underground forum.
Do you have a DSL filter on the line to the TiVo?

A friend hacked it for me, so I don't know what additions were made. It used to send me an email every morning telling me what was going to record, conflicts, etc. Then one day I stopped getting emails. The dailyMail output log indicated that it could not connect to smtp.sbcglobal.com at the ip specified in the .conf file. I tried changing it to the ip address that I get when I ping sbcglobal, but now I get authorization errors. Its like sbcglobal doesn't allow you to use its mail server.
The tivo has a wireless USB device that talks to my wireless router. Since it is hacked, I don't have to connect it to the phone line...
Thanks, I may check the Underground forum.

Most mail servers don't allow you to bounce mail through them from anywhere outside their network to prevent spammers from using them. Also in my area AT&T DSL blocks port 25 (the mail server port) to anywhere except the AT&T mail servers, and those require you to log in with your AT&T email address and password before you can use them.
Don't know what the SBC/AT&T relationship is in your area, so this may or may not be an issue. Did you change ISP's around the time you started having problems?

One thing I can think of is Some used to login with just the username but SBC/at&t changed it so you need the full email. So if you are signing in with just "username" chnge it to "username@sbcglobal.net"

My DSL provider had everyone change to "username@isp.com" for outgoing email a couple of years ago. I have several other email accounts going through my ISP using this method.

This might be better posted in the Underground Forum or the UK Forum where the dailymail thread is located.
Does your ISP require smtp authentication? If so, you will need to put your username and password in the dailymail config file. These need to be in base64.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!
I'm also on AT&T DSL via sbcglobal, and they require authentication. Follow the instructions in the dailymail readme, but here's a quick rundown.
My "mailserver" is set to the IP address for smtp.att.yahoo.com but yours may be different.
The "sender" value must be your sbcglobal login (including the @sbcglobal.net) but the "senderName" can be "Tivo1" or whatever you want.
set authreq true
set authmethod "LOGIN"
username_base64 and password_base64 must be set to the base64-encoded versions of your username and password. You'll have to find a converter (or 2 or 3 or 6) online, and maybe try a few different ones, because some of them include newlines, etc. I don't remember what I ended up figuring out on this one, but it was just trial and error to get the right combo.
Good luck!
